two-weeks trip to Poughkeepsie,
where they were guests of {heir
daughter and son-in-law, Mr, and
Mrs. William Richards. The Jacksons
enjoyed the fall coloring, making
many side trips to points of interest,
and striking no snow until well
south of Poughkeepsie. They report
that that area escaped the heavy
freeze which wiped out armuals in
the Back Mountain, and that gar-
- dens were riots of color.

mitted to an operation, and is
making good recovery at the home

Spends Time In Florida
Sev Newberry, Wellington Ave-
nue, drove his mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. John
Boyer, former Harding residents, to
St. Petersburg, Fla. leaving Wed-
nesday at 9 am. and arriving at
2 p.m. on Saturday. He flew back
Monday, left at 9 aim. and arrived
at ‘Avoca at 5 p.m, considerably
handicapped by the tropical storms.

home in Harding expect to spend
the winter in the South.

have announced the birth of a seven
pound, twelve ounce baby girl, |Ana-
nette Louise at General Hospital
October 6. The Loves also have a
three old son, Wesley Alan,
Mrs. Love is the former Gladys
Schoonover, daughter of Mrs, and
the late Wesley E. Schoonover of
Ceatermoreland. Before her mar-
riage she taught for five years in
Dallas Township Schools, ‘Captain
Love has recently been, recalled to
service with the {UIS. Air Corps.
He will be stationed at Scranton
for a short time.
Mrs. Clinton Smith
Joins Husband On Coast
Mrs Clinton Smith, daughter of
verton Road, and two other soldiers’
wives, ane from Boston and the
other from Washington, Pa., have
arrived at Winfield Scott Army
Base, San Francisco, California, after
driving across the continent to join
their husbands.
Pvt. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Francis F. Smith of Carverton Road
entered the service last March and
has been stationed at Washington,
DIC. with the Photo Mapping En-
gineers, He was transferred to Cali-
fornia in September,
The Smiths have been married
two years.
Miss Miriam Lathrop and Mrs. J.

College last weekend to visit

Miss Wilma Hess To Become Bride

the engagement and approaching
marriage of Wilma Hess, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hess of Noxen
and Ross Williams, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Williams of Shaver
Avenue, [Shavertown, The double
ring ceremony will be performed by
Rev. Robert Yost in Shavertown
Methodist Church Saturday, Nov-
ember 22 at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Robert Hess, Trucksville,
sister-in-law of the bride-elect, will
be matron of honor and Harriet
Jean Williams, sister of the bride-
groom-elect, and Mrs, Ethel (Culp of
Trucksville, bridesmaids,
Howard Culp, Trucksville, will be
best man.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion will be held at the Irem Temple
Country Club.
Miss Hess is a graduate of Dallas
Township High School and Dean
School of Business, Wyoming [Sem-
National . Bank, Wilkes-Barre. Mr.
Williams was graduated from King-
ston Township High School and was
attending Wilkes College when he
entered the U. S. Navy. He served
for four and a half years during
‘World War 2. He is now associated
in business with his father at Ross
Williams Service [Station, Luzerne
Road, Trucksville.
The couple will reside in Shaver-
town where they have built a new
‘home.

Miss Hess and her mother, Mrs.

Eighty-Sixth Birt
Celebrating
hday Today
Edward Line, Main Street, is cele-
brating his eighty-sixth birthday an-
niversary quietly with his wife, now
seventy-eight, and his daughter,
Mrs, Helen Walker who came from
Valley Stream, L. I. for the occasion,
today.
Mr, Line, son of the late John F.
Line, associate judge of ‘Sullivan
County, lost his leg while crawling
over box cars at (Coxton Yards when
a small boy. In spite of this handi-
cap, he has always led am active
and full life and has by no means
settled down to be an old man now.
Retiring, after sixty-five years as
a telegraph operator with the Le-
high Valley in Pittston, he came to
Dallas nine years ago to be near his
daughter, Mrs. Mildred Johnson.
His delightful sense of humor and
his wealth of railroad yarns have
made him a good many friends in
the area. He can be found most any
day at the Lehigh Valley Station
exchanging stories with = Station

about some of their mutual railroad
friends, Vitally interested in world
affairs, he reads the daily papers
and current periodicals and is a
staunch admirer of Barnyard Notes
in the Post,
Mrs. Line, just as active as her
husband, has just finished her fall
housecleaning. Evenings she crochets
for the children and grandchildren
and is very proud of her last quilt,
“Trip Around the World” pattern.
There are six children: Mrs. Helen
Walker, now their guest; Gordon of
Daytona Beach, Florida, who has a
thirty year old son, Major Eric Line,
recently wounded with the U. S.
Marines in Korea; Mrs. Joseph Ral-
ston, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Harriet
Mullen, Philadelphia; Mrs. Mildred
Johnson, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of
Dallas; Mrs. Margaret Blackburn,
New (Castle, Del., also eleven grand-
children,
Millie Ruth Blackburn Cavan-
augh, New Castle, Del., just gave
birth to their first great grandchild,
Keith, whose Dad is in the service.
