Holiday Has Story On
Pennsylvania Rivers
Under the title “The Lovely Riv-
ers of Pennsylvania,” a twelve-page
cover story in the October issue of
Holiday pays tribute to the water-
ways of Pennsylvania.
In colorful photographs and text,
David E. Scherman eulogizes the
Ohio, the Monongahela, the Alle-
gheny, the Susquehanna, the Bran-
dywine, the Schuylkill, the Dela-
ware, and their tributaries, sum-
ming up his praise of the rivers
with this statement: ‘At most,
they have made Pennsylvania the
keystone of the nation’s wealth—
at the very least they have made
it a domain of unending beauty.”
Mr. iScherman’s story includes
accounts of the historical, cultural
and commercial significance of
Pennsylvania's rivers, and he main-
tains that to Pennsylvania, as to
no other state, its rivers are all-
important.
Nineteen photographs accom-
panying Mr. Scherman’s article are
for the most part full-color scenes
of Pennsylvania's major rivers.
Shown also, however, are some of
Pennsylvania’s lesser but beautiful
tributaries, and the cover portrait
which introduces the Holiday arti-
cle pictures the 121-year-old Dela-
ware Canal, which parallels the
Delaware River through Washing-
ton’s Crossing Park in Bucks
County.
