Aware of the almost universal appeal of traditional Dutch food, the sponsors of the Folk Fair, the Pennsylvania Dutch (Folklore (Center, of Franklin. & Marshall [College are making preparations to provide for the serving of vast quantities of favorite Dutch dishes. To date, women of eight churches in Snyder (County, in the heart of the central Pennsylvania Dutch- speaking country, are looking for- ward eagerly to serving their spec- ialties to the largest gathering of appreciative diners in their years of serving church suppers. These same women—daily practi- tioners of the famed Pennsylvania Dutch culinary art—are mow pre- paring menus and placing their or- ders for provisions in anticipation of the four-day Folk Fair. Hail Did No Damage To Late Strawberries When Mrs. Fred Updyke called the Dallas Post to place a classified advertisement for strawberry pick- ers on Monday, she said that recent hail storms had not damaged the strawberry crop much, but that hail .week before last had done serious harm to tomatoes, in some cases being driven right through the fruit. Farmers in some areas re- ported jagged chunks of ice, but the hail was smaller in Pikes Creek. AMOS Mr. and Mrs. Watson B. Miller of Washington were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Amos at their place on Demunds Road. Mr. Miller, former Administrator of the Federal Security Agency, who was succeeded by the present incumbent, Oscar Ewing, and later was Commissioner of Immigration, was recently ap- pointed by the President and con- firmed by the Senate as a member of the Subversive Activities Con- trol Board, The board was set up under the Internal Security Act to determine whether Communist-front organiza- ‘tions must register with the |Govern- ment. The board is. now holding hearings to force the [Communist Party to register. Mr, Miller was much impressed with the beauty of the scenery and prosperous appearance of home in the area. He predicted an era of substantial residential and business expansion for the Back Mountain country, and said he felt that the area would become a famous and much patronized health and plea- sure resort. The Millers expect to return soon for a longer visit, to enjoy the charm and gracious living of a community they have come to love.
