Garfield Jackson has returned to
his home at Harveys Lake after
being critically ill at (General Hospi-
tal for several weeks.
Miss Mary Reedy and Miss Eliz-
abeth ISetsee, teachers in |Atlanta,
Ga. will arrive the early part of
June to be guests of the former's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Reedy,
Center Hill Road.
Dr. and Mrs. H. Byron Harris,
former Wilkes-Barre residents, have
purchased and moved into a home
on Wardan Avenue, Trucksville.

John Joseph Graduates
From College Friday
John Joseph, son of Mr. and
Mrs. David Joseph of Norton Av-
enue, has completed his four year
course at the Chicago College of
Chiropody and Pedic Surgery and
will be graduated on Friday. His
parents will fly out on Tuesday.
John, a graduate of Dallas Bor-
ough High School, attended Tem-
ple University for a semester.
During World War II he served
with the Twenty Fourth Infantry
in the Pacific Theatre ‘of Action.
Prior to studying at Chicago, he
took a brush up course at Wyo-
ming Seminary.
He is married to the former
June Wilson of Plains and has a
seventeen month old baby boy,
Robert David.

Expected Home Sunday
John Vernon Jr. son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Vernon, Center Hill
Road, is expected to arrive Sunday
from the Netherlands West Indies
to spend a short vacation with his
‘parents.
John is.employed as Junior (Chem-
ist in Research and Development at
the Lago Refineries on the Island of
Aruba, having taken over his duties
immediately after his graduation at
M. I. T. This will be his first visit off
the island.

the first Tuesday of the month,
will meet June 10 at the home of

has been employed on the operating
staff of St. Agnes Hospital, White

Announcement has been made of
the engagement of Barbara Elise
Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles F. Peters of Great Kills,
Staten Island, N. Y., to S/ISgt. [Don-
ald Paul MacGown, US. Air Force,
son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. MacGown
of Goss Manor.
Miss Peters, an alumna of Totten-
ville High School, IStaten Island, at-
tended ‘Adelphia College, Garden
City, L. 1.
Sgt. MacGown attended Kingston
High School one year and was grad-
uated from New York Military
Academy. When he entered the ser-
vice he had completed two years at
Marietta College in Ohio. He will
return to Dallas June 20 when he
will receive his honorable discharge
after serving for four years, seven-
teen months of which were spent
in action in Korea. He is mow sta-
tioned at Lockburne Air Force Base,
Columbus, Ohio.
The wedding will take place in
the late summer and Donald will re-
sume his studies at Marietta in the
fall. The couple will live in, the col-
lege town.

Mrs. Corey Meade and daughter,
Dorothy, Idetown entertained at a
variety shower honoring Miss Eliz-
abeth Fannon bride-elect of Wilkes-
Barre, last Thursday might. The

Celebrate Fiftieth Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John S. Cook ,Ver-
non, celebrated their fiftieth wed-
ding anniversary with a family din-
ner and supper last Saturday.
Friends called in the afternoon and
evening,
Mrs. Cook is the former Anna
Huey, daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Christopher Huey, Evans [Falls
farmers. Mr. Cook, son iof the late
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cook, was born
and spent his entire life on the farm
where the couple now resides.
Chock full of energy and the joy
of living, in spite of their seventy
years. they both live full and active
lives. Mr, ‘Cook does his own farm-
ing, and Mrs. Cook runs the house,
her main outside interests being
the Vernon Baptist Church Ladies
Aid and her thirty-nine grandchild-
ren and eleven great grandchildren.
