William Glace is ill at his home

enue, is a patient at Nesbitt Hos-
pital.
Bud Williams is a patient at Nes-
bitt Hospital.
Mrs, John Wilson has been ill
at her home, Sherbrook Farm this
week.
Ralph Rood has been ill at his
home on Lehman Avenue this

Mrs. Sherman Schooly, Shaver-
town, is confined to her home
with illness.
Attorney and Mrs. Leighton R.
Scott and Leighton of Easton will
spend the weekend with the lat-
ter’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Howard W. Risley, Hunts-
ville Road.
Mrs. William McDermott, Ashley
and Mrs. Adele Fromell of King-
ston were Sunday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Don Evans, Church
Street, Dallas.
Edward Dorrance Jr., East Dal-
las, is a patient at Pittston Hospi-
tal where he is suffering from a
possible skull concussion as a re-
sult of a fall from the attic to the
second floor.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Arnold and
family, former Church Street resi-
dents, moved to Pittsburgh on
Tuesday.
Bob Bodycomb returned to Uni-
versity of Kentucky this week
after spending the mid-year recess
with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ro-
bert Bodycomb of Main Street.
Mr. and Mrs. William Guyette
have returned to their home in
Trucksville after spending two
weeks in Florida and other south-
ern states.
Mr. and Mrs. William Butcher of
Washington, D. C, and Wilkes-
Barre have moved into the house
on Columbia Avenue formerly oc-
cupied by Mr. and Mrs. James Kist-
ler.
Mrs. Mary V. Landmesser en-
tertained on Sunday for her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Dickson Landmesser of
Wilkes-Barre, the occasion being
their seventh wedding annivérsary
and Mr. Landmesser’s birthday.
There were sixteen guests.
Janet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs,
Alfred Smith returned to her home
on Sunday after being a patient at
General Hospital.
Bill Hoffman, member of the
freshman class at Cornell Univers-
ity, spent the mid term re-
cess with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Hoffman of Lake
street.
Mr. and Mrs, Harold Barrick and
Mildred Wilcox and daughter,
Charlotte of Carlisle, attended the
jce follies at Hershey recently.
Miss Charlotte: Wilcox, Carlisle,
formerly of Harveys Lake, and Bob
Lehman of Newville, attended the
Farm Show at Harrisburg last
week. Mr. Lehman remained for
the week.
George: Bulford and Barry Ed-
wards of Huntsville attended the
Farm Show last week.
Mrs, Frank Ferry has been ill
at her home on Machell Avenue
this week.
Cpl. and Mrs. Harold Souder and
five week old Johnnie were recent
guests of Mrs. Souder’s grand-
mother and grandfather, Mr. and
Mrs. William Wilson of Franklin
Street. Cpl. Souder has now repor-
ted to Kelly Field and Mrs. Sou-
der and Johnnie are staying with
the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. P. Wilson of Charleston, W. Va,
Anthony Marchakitus, instructor
at Lehman Jackson High School,
has been on the sick list for sev-
eral days.
Mr. ‘and Mrs, Robert VanHorn
of Lake Street will attend the wed-
ding of the latter's cousin, Rachel
Ann Burbank to John Youells in
Binghamton tomorrow.
Mrs. Lewis LeGrand, Baldwin
Street, is visiting her son and fa-
mily, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Le-
Grand at Angola, Ind.
Lt. Albert Morse, former Trucks-
ville resident, is on his way to
Alaska. Mrs, Morse and the baby
are staying with the former's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Post of
Cliffside, Trucksville.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pokorny,
former Wilkes-Barre residents, are
living on Rice Street, Trucksville.
Mr. and Mrs. William Ocken-
house, Miss Eleanor Ockenhouse, of
Davenport Street, and Mr. Russell
Ockenhouse of Demunds and Mrs.
Ralph Eipper spent Sunday at Port
Dickinson visiting Mr. and Mrs. Al-
len Ockenhouse and family.
Mr. and Mrs. George Van Cam-
pen, Noxen, entertained on Sun-
day for their son’s seventh birth-

Ruff, Joan MacMillan, Robert Tra-
ver, John Wilson, Beverly Lord,

MARY. TOMASCIK
Whether or not John Comer, Par-
rish Street, who marries Mary To-
mascik tomorrow will have his bride
for long, depends somewhat on the
outcome of the national white col-
lar contest being sponsored by the
Seaboard Finance Company. Mary,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Stephen
Tomascik of Lincoln Drive, who has
withstood elimination throughout
the preliminaries, is one of the few
contestants to reach the finals held
Monday.
The winner will be known as the
“Silver Queen’ and will tour lead-
ing cities under the sponsorship of
Seaboard Finance Company.
Board Chairman William A. Thom-
pson announced that Company is
dedicating its 25th Anniversary to
paying tribute to its own several
hundred feminine employees and
the approximately 6,000,000 other
women working in offices. Miss
Tomasick works in Seaboard’s of-
fice in Wilkes-Barre.
The “Silver Queen” will be sele-
cted on the basis of appearance,
charm, personality, intelligence and
efficiency at her job by a group
of Hollywood judges, who include
Alan Ladd, Joan Fontaine, Wally
Westmore and Bill Meikeljohn of
Paramount Studios.
Junior Woman's Club
To Hold Dinner Meeting
A dinner meeting will be held
at the American Legion Home on
Tuesday Feb. 5 at 6:45 PM by
members of the Dallas Junior Wo-
man’s Club. All reservations for
the dinner should be made by Fri-
day Feb, 1 with Mrs. Ned Guyette
or Mrs. John Jewell. Following the
supper a business meeting will be
held with Mrs. Russell Parsons
presiding in‘ the absense of Mrs.
Alva Eggleston who is in Florida,
Nominations will be presented
for the new slate of officers by a
committee consisting of Mrs. John
Jewell, chairman, Mrs. William
Hanna, Mrs. John Richards, Miss
Mary Bennalleck, Mrs. Sam Mar-
gellina. The new officers will start
their term in March.
A representative of the King
Floral Co. will give a talk and de-
monstration on arranging flowers
and table decorations. .
The executive board of the Club
recently held a meeting at the
home of Mrs, Wilson Garinger. The
following were proposed and ac-
cepted as new members of the
club: Mrs. Paul Phillips, Mrs. Wil-
liam Wright, Mrs. John Porter,
Mrs. Richard Peirce, Miss Barbara
Major, Miss Caroline Morris, Miss
Joan Thomas.
Mrs. Charles Mahler, service
chairman, asked that members
bring toys which can be used in
the baby clinic. Washable baby
toys, crayon books, story books
are needed. Members are also
asked to contribute old Christmas
cards,
Mrs. Ralph Garris announced
that Mrs. Elizabeth Conrad will
read at a tea to be presented by
the club on March 10. The date had
formerly been set at Feb. 14.
Next meeting of the executive
board will be at the home of Mrs.
Allen Montross of West Dallas.

ber of local friends at a lovely
dinner party Friday night. Mrs.
Shacochius, the former Hazel Bo-

the first employees of Natona Mill
while it was yet operating on Main
Street.

Noxen Students Visit
County Business Places
Eighth grade pupils of Noxen
under the direction of their
teacher, Mrs. Martha Smith, en-
joyed a full day visiting the Wyo-
ming County Court House, the En-
dicott Johnson shoe factory, the
Citizens National Bank and the
locker plant at Tunkhannock last
Tuesday.
At the Court House they had a
personally = conducted tour by
Judge Farr, at the bank each was
given a dollar and shown how to
open his own saving account, at
the locker plant they saw meat cut
up, wrapped and placed in the
freezing compartments and they
followed a shoe from sheets of lea-
ther to the finished product at the
shoe factory.
The trip, planned in its entirety
by Ann Engelman, was made on
the school bus, each student carry-
ing his own lunch so that no time
was wasted in restaurants.

Mr, Dreher is also a graduate of
Dallas Borough High School and
of Penn State College. During
World War 2 he served with the
U. S. Army stationed in Canada.
He is employed by the.the Corning
Glass Works in Corning, N. Y.
No date has been set for the
wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston,
Park Street, have announced the
birth of a daughter in General Hos-
pital January 30.
Miss Shirley Jean DeRemer,
daughter of Daniel DeRemer and
the late Ethel DeRemer of Sweet
Valley, became the bride of Robert
Whitney of Vestal, N.-Y. Satur-
day evening at 7 p. m. Rev. Whit-
ney, father of the bridegroom, per-
formed the double ring ceremony
in the Christian Church at Sweet
Valley.
Maid of honor was Beverly Up-
dyke of Plymouth, class mate of
the bride, and Joan DeRemer, sis-
ter of the bride, and Sammy Ijms,
another classmate, bridesmaids.
Best man was Kenneth Updyke
and William Burchitt, usher. Both
are classmates of the bridegroom.

her father wore white satin gown
made with tight bodice, full skirt

Is Bride of Robert Whitney
ending in train, high neckline and
long tight sleeves pointed at wrist.
Her full length veil fell from a
crown of orange blossoms and she
carried a bouquet of white roses
and a white prayer book.
Miss Updyke chose peach colored
satin and Miss DeRemer and Miss
Ijms, blue organdie. All were fash-
ioned like the. gown of the bride.
They carried Colonial bouquets of
red and white carnations. :
Following the ceremony, a rec-
eption was held in the Church Hall
and the couple left for Johnson
City.
Mrs, Whitney is a graduate of
Lehman High School. She is a stu-
dent in the Baptist Bible Semin-
ary in Johnson City. Mr. Whitney
is also a student at the Seminary.
Mrs. Sherman Wardan
Is Hostess At Dinner
Mrs. Sherman Wardan, Main
Road, Shavertown, entertained at
a triple birthday turkey dinner on
Sunday. She had celebrated her
birthday anniversary January 16,
Mrs. Sherman Kunkle had hers on
January 24 and George Bronson’s
comes on February 11. Present
were Mr. and Mrs, George Bron-
son, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Kun-
kle, Mrs. John Thomas and the
Wardan family.
Has Rheumatic Fever
Bnd Would Like Cards
Audrey Ellum, 6, Dallas Town-
ship first grade pupil, is ill at her
home with rheumatic fever. She
will be confined for many weeks
and is allowed no visitors.
Her parents Mr. and Mrs, Ar-
thur Ellum, lost one child shortly
before moving to Elmcrest from
Connecticut. Audrey has a brother
Arthur, 11, student in Dallas Town-
ship Schools. Her daddy is with
Natona Mills.
She would like very much to re-
ceive cards and letters from her
little friends even though they can-
not call on her.

Joseph Mazer Jr., son of Mr, and :
Mrs. Joseph Mazer of Lehman was
recently promoted to staff serge-
ent. Before going into the army
last February he was employed by
the American Bridge Company in
Gary, Ind., as welder. He is now
a heavy equipment operator and
construction foreman in an avia-
tion engineer unit. At present he
is spending a fifteen-day furlough
with his parents after which he
will report to Fort Hirachuca,
Arizona. :

for its annual Valentine party,
scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7
in the Community Hall. A covered
dish supper will be served.
