en AAs Huntsville Christian meets Orange PAGE EIGHT Wyant Heads Church League The reorganized Back Mountain Church - Community Basketball League is preparing for a banner season under the leadership of new- ly elected president Elmer “Tug” Wyant. The season will open to- morrow nite at the Kingston Town- ship gym with the first game start- ing at 7:00 sharp. Three games are scheduled for tomorrow’s open- er. The first contest finds Trucks- ville Methodist playing St. Paul's. in the second game while the finale features St. Therese’s playing Shav- ertown Methodist. League president Wyant, who is also the Secretary of the Back Mountain YMCA, announced at the final preseason meeting of the league that the YMCA will donate a yearly trophy to be kept by the regular season champion. This trophy is in addition to the Play- off Cup which is held by the play- off winner from year to year. At the meeting. held Tuesday the league representatives discussed the rules for the. coming season and decided to play a 15-week regu- lar season schedule starting to- morrow, December 1. All contests gym. Two referees will handle each game. St. Paul's won the regular season crown last year with Dallas Meth- odist in the runnerup position. In the playoffs Orange came out as the surprise victor in the final game over Shavertown Methodist after both fives had upset the league leaders in the opening round. Has Seventh Birthday Mrs. John Lukavitch entertained for her grand-daughter, Joan Sgroi, on her seventh birthday Saturday. Decorations were carried out in pink and green. Games were played and refreshments served. Mrs. Johnson lived on Carverton Road, Trucksville for many years. Her husband, William, had opera- ted a country store. Mrs. Johnson remained a member of Trucks- ville Methodist Church, and it was Rev. Robert Webster who officiated at her funeral on Monday, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery. A descendant of Colonel Ebene- zer Gay, active in the Revolution, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of Benjamin and Jane Gay Coolbaugh. She was born at Lockville. Surviving are her son Arthur, ten grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren. Mrs. Arline Stroud Entertains At Cards Mrs, Arline Stroud, former Trucksville resident, now of Wilkes- Barre, entertained members of her Trucksville card club at her home Tuesday night. David Kent Martin Mr. and Mrs, Elwood Martin of Kunkle annouce the birth of a baby boy, David Kent at Nesbitt Hos- pital November 21. Mrs. Martin is the former Layiah Winters. She and baby David are getting along nicely. Allen Mosier Well Allen Mosier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Mosier of Kunkle, who was a patient at the contagious hospital suffering from polio, has returned to his home and is able to be around the house. He wishes to thank all his friends and neighbors who sent him cards and presents or in any way made his hospitalization more pleasant. Woman's Club Board Plans Christmas Party Executive Board of the Dallas Senior Woman's Club met Monday night at the home of Mrs. Harry Ohlman. President Mrs. Charles Lee, presided. A CARE package was sent to Korea from the club. The monthly club meeting will be a dinner meeting at the Castle on December 12 at 6:30. The Woman's Club Chorale directed by Mrs. Norman Patton will sing. Mrs. Luksic of Wilkes-Barre will speak and demonstrate on flower arrange- ments. Williams Delighted At Volunteer Turnout Robert J. Williams, president of Shavertown Fire Company, re- ports that forty volunteers turned out for the John Henderson fire last Monday night, almost a rec- ord performance. Volunteers were augmented by parents coming home from the PTA meeting. A neighbor sent over a picnic pot of scalding coffee after the situa- tion was under control. Next meeting of Shavertown Vol- unteers is December 10. Election of officers will be held, and nomin- ations will be open until that date. Refreshments will be served. Lumberman, Formerly Of Dallas, Dies At 46 John Whipple, 46, born at Har- veys Lake and a former resident of Dallas, died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Hop Bottom. ‘Mr. Whipple had operated the re- tail lumber yard at Hop Bottom in conjunction with a logging and sawmill business for the past eight- een years, moving to that commu- nity eight years ago from Dallas. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Whipple, Harveys Lake. A sister, Mrs. Edwin Kern, lives there. Mr. Whipple succumbed to an unexpected heart attack. He was buried in Squire Cemetery. His wife, the former Florence Sickler, Noxen, survives; also a son, John, married and with a son of his own, John 3rd; and children, Richard, Jane and Joan at home.
