Larry Newhart’s first inning
home run with two men on base
gave Ralph Anthony, Shavertown
pitcher, a working margin to defeat
East Dallas 3-2 on East Dallas dia-
mond Sunday. Glenn Swank start-
ed on the mound for East Dallas,
and except for the one gopher ball
thrown to Newhart, was untouch-
able. Although wild, he hit three
batsmen, Swank chalked up 11
strikeouts in six innings. In the
second inning Swank struck out
the three men facing him. Warren
Stanton pitched the final innings
for East Dallas and allowed only
two of Shavertown’s six hits.
Anthony went the route for Shav-
ertown allowing two runs on eight
hits.
Shavertown wrapped up the tilt
in the first inning when Richards
singled and Kitchen was hit by a
pitched ball to set the stage for
Newhart’s tremendous blast to left
center. East Dallas scored one
run in the first when Wilson's
single drove in Bellas who was on
base on a Shavertown error.
The second run came in the fifth

when Muchler slammed out a
double, East Dallas’ only extra
base hit, to score Swank, who al-
so was on base via an error.
Billy Metzger, Shavertown sec-
ond baseman, had the dubious dis-
tinction of being hit by a pitched
ball three out of the five times he
came to bat. He singled the other
two times to place himself on base
five times out of five bats. New-
hart laced out a single to go with
his four bagger to lead the Shaver-
town batters. Muchler had three
for four, one a double, to top the
East Dallas nine. Wilson and Os-
trum had two singles apiece and
Stanton one to complete the East
Dallas batting. Richards and Kit-
chen each had a single to aid
Newhart and Metzger in the
attack.
