wm = % RE os AEE ® a Peter Rekus Voted Fitth Honor Scout 112 Attend Father Bnd Son Dinner Of St. Therese’s Troop Boy Scout Troop 232, St. Ther- ese’s Church, conducted its fifth annual Father and Son Banquet on Father’s Day, in the Church audi- torium. Peter Rekus, Jr., was named Ho- nor Scout of the year. He and his dad were escorted to the speaker’s table by the former Honor Scouts and thereby fixed his name plate to the Plaque with a screw in each end of the engraved plate. Robert Purcell, toastmaster, was introduced by John Baur, Sr. chairman of the Scout Committee. Peter Rekus, Jr., welcomed the dads for his fellow Scouts. Peter Lincoln, speaking for the dads, thanked the boys for the Banquet and the honor. Each boy earned the money to pay for his and his dad’s dinner. Nelson Downend presented the puppet show. : Lew Jordan, Assistant Scout Ex- ecutive, presented the Charter to the troop and also presented the Charter to the recently formed Ex- plorer Post 232, B.S.A., of which Eugene Heinrich is the Explorer Adviser. Rev. J. J. O'Leary, pastor of St. Therese’s, spoke, and introduced Rev. - Bernard Grogan as principal speaker of the evening. The Explorer Scouts demonstra- ted how to make a rope and the Panther and «Rattlesnake Patrols had a tug of war with the rope to prove its strength. The troop then invested tenderfoot scouts, Donald Gavigan and Lewis Schultz, with a candle lighting ceremony, and then presented Badges to First Class Scouts, Peter Rekus and Gene Heinrich; Second Class Badges to Martin Richert, Walter French and John Derr. Star Badges were pre- sented to Bernard Banks, Robert Purcell and Ralph Dowend. Scout John Baur received his Life Scout Badge. All Badges were first pre- sented to the boy's father who | pinned it on his son. Officers of the. troop: were sworn in. Scoutmaster . John Butler spoke of the different merits that enabled Peter Rekus to become the Fifth Honor Scout. Each Scout presented his mo- ther with a rose corsage and a kiss. Father Francis Kane closed the program with prayer. There were 112 present. Harvey's Lake By Mrs. Albert Armitage H. L. 3331 Miss Mary Kuchta of Lakewood, N. J., has returned to spend the summer vacation with her mother, Mrs. John Kuchta. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kuchta of Clarks Summit drove Mary home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kuchta and daughter Judy spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gar- inger. Judy will spend a week with her grandparents, and Mrs. Kuchta will spend the week with her husband in Harrisburg, where he is now employed. Mrs. Howard sHiggins was in the Greyhound bus accident at Ply- mouth on Wednesday, but was not seriously hurt. Mrs. Higgins was returning from Danville, where she had taken her granddaughter Peggy Shepperdson home on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Donald D. Smith and daughter, Donna, were Sunday dinner guésts® of Mr. and Mrs. | Harvey Kitchen at Idetown. Mrs. Lewis Jones submitted to an operation on Thursday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Her condition is good. Herbert Davis Jr. of Chester is spending a two weeks vacation: with his grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Rauch. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rudolph of Kingston are occupying the Bill Woolbert cottage at’ the Alderson end of the lake. ; Mr. and Mrs. Michael J.
