Lehman-Jackson Commencement
exercises Friday night in the audi-
torium saw the most photographed
Girl of the Year, Grace Barrall,
winning the Julius Long Stern
award, an engraved wrist-watch;
American Legion award for cooper-
ation and leardership; and the Dan-
forth Foundation award for leader-
ship.
Andrew Kasko won the Charles
Long award for agriculture, a gold
wrist watch, given for outstand-
ing achievement over a three-year
course.
Anne Palmer, valedictorian, won
the Readers Digest and Alumni
awards.
Ronald Nuss, salutatorian, was
awarded the Danforth Foundation
trophy.
Lettermen’s Club and American
Legion awards went to Richard
Kern.
Invocation was given by Rev.
‘| Frank K. Abbott; introduction: by
Mary Alice Lewis, this year’s May
Queen.
Anne Palmer, spoke on ‘“Oppor-
tunities for Youth”, Ronald Nuss
on “The Challenge of the Future”;
Grace Barrall, ‘Preparation
Through Education”.
Mantle oration was given by
Robert Scally, ‘senior class presi-
dent, Mantle Acceptance by Flor-
ence Sobieski, Junior Class Presi-
dent.
Awards were made by Lester B.
Squier, supervising principal.
Grace Barrall was president of
local and county chapters of Future
Home-makers of America 1950-
1951; she has a four year scholar-
ship to College Misericordia in
Home Economics; she handled in-
stallation ceremonies at the Farm
Show in Harrisburg, and won first
prize on a skirt; one of six candi-
dates for May Queen, she had a
place in the Court of Honor.

standing scholarship attainment,
was editor of La Vista, Lehman-
Jackson Yearbook; played varsity
basketball; and accompanied on the
piano for group singing.
Ronald Nuss has been class treas-
urer for two years; has played
varsity basketball, football and
baseball; has entered into all
sports, and has been a member of
the band, in addition to standing
second in his class.
Richard Kern, one of the most
popular boys in school, has played
varsity football
been a band member, and has
sung in the mixed chorus.
