Wins Game For East Dallas
Walt Kozemchak, batting with
two out, broke a 5-5 ninth inning
tie on the first pitch with a line
drive over the first baseman’s head
to score Tex Wilson from third
with the inning run for East Dallas
over Tunkhannock.
In winning the game East Dallas
set some kind of record, and an
unenviable one at that. East Dal-
las committed six errors in one
inning and had a total of eleven.
Tunkhannock played smooth even
ball and had they been able to
hit Stanton hard enough at the
right time they would have breezed
through. + As it was ten men were
stranded on base.
Stanton was in trouble most of
the game and little of it was of his
own making. Tunkhannock col-
lected only seven hits, all singles,
and had only one man reach first
on’ a free ticket. Fourteen hits
off the booming East Dallas bats
was the factor of safety.
Tex Wilson had three successive
singles to lead the club. Howard
Garbutt and Bill Race each connect-
ed for a double and a single. Russ
Muchler blasted out a triple for
the longest hit of the game and
added a single. Walt Kozemchak
and Warren Stanton cracked out
two singles each to add to the
total. Giberson was the only Tunk
batter to hit Stanton more than
once. He had two singles. East
Dallas hit safely at least once
every inning.
The Tunkhannock infield func-
tioned smoothly as it reeled .off
one double play and came close on
two others. Garbutt made two
tough catches in right field to
come off with top fielding honors
for East Dallas. Vogrin, on the
mound for Tunkhannock, started
the fatal ninth inning auspicously
as he whiffed Belles, the first man.
Wilson then followed with his third
hit of the afternoon and advanced
to second on Garbutt’s single. Both
runners moved up as Race ground-
ed out second to first. Then with
two on and two down, Kozemchak’s
blast ended the game.

Jackson sparked by Salansky,

The first game of the season
was played last Tuesday with Dal-

Trucksville. The second game, saw
Shavertown win over Carverton 13-

hitting his second home run of
the season with two mates aboard.
Jackson won its first game Fri-

Minor league games will follow
the regular Little League contests.
These games are played by lads
"| who are out for League squads but
who haven’t made the grade yet.
Charles Steinhauer, league com-
missioner, announces that in ten
days the bleachers will be up at |
the Shavertown grounds along with
a refreshment stand and an electric
scoreboard.
Among those who deserve com-
mendation for the fine job they
are doing are the league umpires
headed by Red Schwartz. They
have been in for a lot of good
natured ribbing from the fans and
have not been distracted by it. The
league would appreciate it if the
many well meaning fans would be
a little less vociferous with the
umps and make their job a little
less strenuous. Umpires include
Howard Woolbert, Bert Stitzer, Irv
Coolbaugh, Ted Poad, Frank Holly,
M. Halwick, Joe Romanski, and Ted
Woolbert.
The league's official slogan is—
“It's better to build boys, than to
mend men.”
