teen hits off the booming bats of
the East Dallas’ nine, subdued Ver-
| non 10-4 Sunday to put the finish-
ing touches on the ceremonies held
earlier to celebrate the dedication
| of the East Dallas ball field. Stan-
' ton’s eight-hit chore moves East
| Dallas up into a five way tie for
second place.
Both pitchers started out in top
| form. Neither got into any trouble
until East Dallas scored three runs
{in the fourth with two men out
i with four successive singles. The
; telling blow in the inning was the
two-run single by Stanton which
scored Kozemchak and Ostrum.
| From then on the ball game was
“wide open as both teams got their
eye on the ball. During the first
four frames Stanton struck out
eight of the first twelve men to
face him.
Fred Stevens with four hits, one
a double, Tex Wilson and Bill Race
with three each were the big guns
in the East Dallas barrage. Race
also scored three times to lead in
that department. Faux, with two
singles, led the Vernon batsmen
while the majority had trouble
solving Stanton’s slants.
Vernon threatened in the ninth
but was unable to score as two
men were forced, one on third and
one on second, and two men were
left stranded with the third out.
The pre-game ceremonies were
very successful as many local fans
went all out to back the flag rais-
ing. Herm Kern was the master
of ceremonies and introduced the
speakers including George Shupp,
who was the guiding hand behind
the afternoon’s festivities.

Beaumont Toppled
By Alert Orange
As the result of two upsets this
week, Shavertown is the only
squad entering the fourth week
of play with an unblemished rec-
ord. Beaumont and Vernon were
toppled from the heights Sunday
while it took Shavertown ten in-
nings to gain its victory.
Carverton made a valiant bid
for an upset battling ten innings
before succumbing to Shavertown
11-10. Orange turned the trick
at Beaumont defeating Arch Aus-
tin’s charges for the first time this
season. Vernon was humbled 10-4
in a surprise Dedication Day vic-
tory for East Dallas. Noxen edged
by Tunkhannock in a thrilling 5-4
contest. Dallas ran over Jenks for
its first victory and Jenks third
loss in as many tries. :
Two major encounters loom up
in Sunday’s contests. Shavertown
visits Tunkhannock. Beaumont
travels to Noxen in another import-
ant tilt.
A meeting of league officials will
be held Monday evening at 7:30 at
Bowman’s Restaurant. Team Ros-
ters will be turned in at this time.
