lege this weekend.
Mr, and Mrs. J. Stanley Rine-
himer have returned to their home
on Lehman avenue after spending
several weeks at Fort Lauderdale,
Fla. Last week Mrs. Rinehimer
visited her sister, Mrs. Lawrence
Bevan in Hicksville, L. I
Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Thomas,
Harveys Lake, will leave Sunday
for Miami, Fla. They will stop
at the Beverly Terrace Hotel, Bis-
cayne Boulevard.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Rogers of
Harveys Lake have returned from
a motor trip to Fort Knox, Ky,
where they visited their son, Bern-
ard who is with the armed forces
there. They stayed at the Henry
Clay Hotel. Miss Virginia Lee
Stroud of Shavertown accompanied
them. .
Donnie Besecker, student at
Wilkes College, was guest of Ruth
Haycox at the spring prom at

Jackie Barnes who has been a
patient at Nesbitt Hospital for
several weeks returned to his
home on Elmcrest on Sunday.
Mrs. Harry Swepston, Elmcrest,
is a patient at Nesbitt Hospital
where she is under observation.
Ralph Brickel has been ill at
his home on Main road.
. Mrs. Melvyn A. Estey, Elmcrest
and her mother, Mrs. R. B. White
of Ashley are vacationing in
- Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Huston Day of
purchased the
former Howell homestead at Shav-
ertown. Mr. Day’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Asa Day bought the
Loucks home on Terrace drive.
Cards have been received from
Dot and Ray Hedden from Rio de-
Janeiro saying they expected to go
to Buenos Aires last Sunday and
to Lima, Peru, Monday. Plan to
be back in Dallas this weekend.
Mrs. Nelson Dymond and sons,
Nelson Jr. and Kenneth of Orange
have joined Mr. Dymond at Long
Island.
Mrs. H, H. Zeiser and Mrs. W.
J. Smith who are spending two
weeks at Williamsburg, Va., en
route from St. Petersburg, write
that trees are budding and spring
flowers blooming.
Mrs, Beatrice Billings, Trucks-
ville, R. D. spent the early part
of the week in Philadelphia where
she attended the Flower Show and
visited her sister, Mrs. Beth
Walker.
Max Dreher who is employed at
the Corning Glass Company, Cor-
ning, N. Y. spent the weekend
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Max Dreher of Park Street.
David Kunkle has been ill with
a streptococcic sore throat at his
home on Machell avenue this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Cragg Herdman,
Kunkle, spent Saturday in Johnson
City, N. Y., visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph James, former Duryea resi-
dents, and Mr. and Mrs. George
Ryman, formerly of Beaumont.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dymond,
former Dallas residents, have an-
nounced the birth of a son, Rich-
ard Albert in Nesbitt Hospital
March 5. Mother and baby are
doing well.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Snyder
of Bloomsburg have announced the
birth of a daughter in Geisinger
Hospital February 25. The Snyders |
are former Claude street, Dallas,
residents.

Mr. and Mrs. James Haughney,
65 Abbot street, Plains, announce
the marriage of their daughter,
Catherine, to Cpl. Richard Culp,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Culp.
The ceremony was performed at
Carlisle, Pa., December 23 when
Richard was home for his holiday
leave.
Mrs. Culp is a graduate of Sacred
Heart High School, Plains. Cpl
Culp was graduated from Lehman
High School and before leaving
with the 109th for Camp Atter-
bury was employed by Natona
Mill.
Mrs. Culp is residing in an apart-
ment at 65 Abbott street.
Entertain At Dinner
Mr, and Mrs. William L. Guyette,
Huntsville road, entertained at
dinner Monday night honoring Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Gregory Jr. who
celebrated their third wedding an-
niversary. Present were Mr, and
Mrs. Robert Griffiths, the Gregorys
and the Guyettes.
Surprised On Birthday
Mrs.. Charles Hilbert’'s birthday
is Saturday, March 10 but Ms.
Earl Johnson, Mrs. Edward Mac-
Dougall, Mrs. Raymond Dennion,
Mrs. Carolyn Srovell, Mrs. Maud
Scovel and Mrs. W. Arch Austin
coulda’t wait. They surprised her
Wednesday night with cake and all
the trimmings.
Hedden Leads Class
Carl Hedden, Machell avenue,
with an average of over ninety-
seven, leads his class in scholar-
ship according to the quarterly
standings just published in the
“Opinator,” Wyoming Seminary’s
weekly publication. Carl is a sub-
freshman, having received his
lower school training in Dallas
Borough. This is his first year at
Seminary.
Donald Perrego Makes
Dean's List At Bucknell
Donald Willard Perrego, Dallas
R. D. 2 is one of the 281 men and
women who have been cited on the
dean’s honors list for scholastic
achievement during the first sem-
ester of the current academic year
at Bucknell University. Only stu-
dents who achieve a high average
in their studies are named to the |
honors list.
Son.of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Per-
rego, Don, a graduate of Dallas
Township High School, is a senior
enrolled in the civil engineering
course at the University.
John Robert Pickett
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pickett, De-
munds road, have announced the
birth of a son, John Robert at
Nesbitt Hospital March 2. Mrs.
Pickett is the former Jewell Matu-
kitis. This is the couple’s second
child.
Mrs. Ida Wilcox is ill with in-
fluenza at her home at Chase. Her
brother, Aaron Sutton of Lehman
visited her.
Hugh Ridall Jr. has returned to
his home in Trucksville after
spending a week in Chicago.
Mrs. Roger Owens, Spring street,
has been spending the past two
weeks in San Antonio with her
husband who is in the service.
The couple will return to Dallas
tomorrow and the Doctor will en-
joy a short leave before going
overseas.
Mrs. Laning Harvey has been
ill with a streptococcic sore throat
at her home at Huntsville.
Richard Owens, Davenport street,
has returned to work after being
ill for the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Hessler, Rice
street, Trucksville, have returned
to their home after vacationing in
Winter Haven, Fla. Their trip was
shortened by the death of their
sister-in-law.
Jack Yaple has been confined
to bed with an infected knee at his
home at Goss Manor this week.

Melvyn Estey Promoted
To Lieutenant Colonel
Melvyn A. Estey, Elmcrest, has
been promoted to the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine
Corps Reserve. Col. Estey, a grad-
uate of Dartmouth College, is in
an inactive status.
He served for two and a half
years during World War II as an
Artillery Officer with the Marines |
and was awarded the Bronze Star
for meritorious service in the Iwo
Jima operation.
Until recently an instructor at
Culver Military Academy, Culver,
Indiana, he is now associated with
Mrs. Estey’s brother, Boyd White
in the Ashley Hardware Store.
The Esteys who have two boys,
aged 5 and 9 and a girl aged 2,
moved to Elmcrest just before the
holidays.

Holds Initiation and Dinner
Harveys Lake Woman's Service
Club held its initiation of new
members and banquet at Castle Inn
last Thursday evening. Members
received corsages and favors and
an unusual corsage was won by
