The Mammoth Easter 1950 Egg Hunt Gets Under Way
| Grace Barrall Finds
Two Dates Conflict
Lehman High
president of the
local FHA and also of Luzerne
County Future Homemakers of
America, had to decide this week
between a delegate to the national
convention at Indiana College on
March 10, and taking a competi-
tive scholarship examination at
Misericordia on the same date. The
prospect of a possible scholarship
won out.
Grace Barrall,
School Senior,
Lou Banta Sets Wheels In Motion
For Bigger And Better Egg Hunt
For the afternoon of March 24
at 2:30, on Kingston Township
school grounds, Lou Banta is plan-
ning an Easter Egg Hunt of mam-
moth proportions, outranking last
year’s production in number of
prizes and children, with twice as
many hard boiled eggs for bait.
Last year 5,000 eggs were dyed
for the occasion. This year there
will be 10,000, which should take
up the spring surplus in egg pro-
duction and cause falling egg prices
to stabilize themselves.
Schools and mothers will again
cooperate in the boiling and dye-
ing, and merchants will once more
donate prizes of merchandise or
cash.
Three thousand children attend-
ed last year’s egg hunt. This year
Lou is hoping for twice as many,
with all Back Mountain schools
collaborating.
Working through the schools,
with each child responsible for a
half dozen hard boiled eggs, the
5,000 eggs were accumulated with-
out too great trouble to any one
! Kingston Township,
person. With other schools work-
ing on the project, the goal of
10,000 eggs is not unattainable.
Boy and Girl Scouts will again
be pressed into service to help hide
the eggs, and the grounds will
again be divided into areas, one
for pre-school children, a second
for 1st and 2nd graders, a third
for children from 3d to 6th grade,
and a fourth for 7th and 8th
grades,
This is the third year of the
Easter Egg Hunt. Last year Old
Toll Gate Lions helped distribute
prizes, and police from Larksville,
Dallas Town-
ship, and the Reilly Detective
Agency assisted in keeping order.
Prizes given by local merchants
and interested residents included
a camera and a bicycle, scooters,
candy, portable radio and wrist
watches, also some live rabbits and
baby chicks. Dan Flood, congress-
man, contributed.
Baskets to Crippled children or
children unable to take part in
the festivities totalled 143.
