from trips through the New Eng-
land States. During their travels
they accidently met at Northamp-
ton’s Wiggins Tavern and had a
nice visit.
Mrs. Irving Roe and family of |
Lancaster spent the week with
Mrs. Roe’s father, H. A. Smith of
Machell avenue. She came here
to attend the funeral of her mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davis en-
tertained at a buffet luncheon at
their home on Pioneer avenue
Sunday evening honoring Bishop
W. Sterrett who came here for
the dedication of the Prince of
Peace Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott of
Mt. Greenwood road are entertain-
ing their nephew and wife, Mr.
and Mrs. Lee Tracy of New York
City.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Leiben-
duth of Noxen have announced the
birth of a daughter at General
Hospital Saturday, September 16.
Mrs. H. H. Harris of Lehman
avenue is a patient at General
Hospital where she submitted to
an operation Saturday. She is
getting along nicely.
Merton Coolbaugh is recuperat-
ing at his home on Shaver avenue
after being a patient -at General
Hospital.
The Doc. Jeter home on Lake
street is progressing nicely and
now has the wood framework. of |
the first floor outlined.
Mrs. John Girvan has been con-
fined to her home on Lake street
with an injured leg which she suf-
fered when she slipped on a stone
in her back yard and fell. She is
able to be around the house now.
Mr. and Mrs. John Coon of Over-
brook road spent three days this
week at Wellesley, Mass., where
they enrolled Shirley in the Col-
lege. Mrs. Maggie Hildebrant kept
the home fires burning during their
absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shaver of
Pioneer avenue had as guest last
week Mrs. Elsie Roushey of Plant
City, Fla. Mrs. Roushey is a former
resident of Askam and she and her
husband were old friends of the
Shavers. While she was here Mrs.
Minnie Sorber of Askam spent the
day with them. Sunday Mr. and
Mrs. Eston Adelman and Mrs.
Millie Keener of Endicott, N. Y.
were guests at the Shaver home.
Mr, and Mrs. Bernie Williamson
of Church street are spending their
vacations visiting relatives and
friends in Philadelphia.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Berlew of
Shavertown have announced the
birth of a son at Nesbitt Hospital
September 13.
Mrs. George Stolarick entertain-
ed members of her pinochle club at
her home in Lehman recently.
Mr. and Mrs. John Engler of
Shavertown have moved to New
York City.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kromelbein
of Shavertown have started con-
struction of a home at Carverton.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Gear-
hart of Benton called on local
friends Sunday. The Gearharts
are former Dallas residents. Mr.
Gearhart used to be bookkeeper

and are gradually moving from

will pull up stakes when they have

twenty-five Holstein and Guernsey
cows.

Three Years Wednesday
Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Giunta,
celebrated their third wedding an-
niversary on Wednesday. They
were married in Luzerne Methodist
Church September 20, 1947.
Mrs. Giunta is the former Kath-
ryn Sgarlet, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Sgarlet of Luzerne

James Ward Improving
The condition of James Ward
who has been critically ill with
polio at his home at Harveys Lake
is somewhat improved.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kurfess of

Crest College for the 1950-'51 ses-
sion. She is a member of the Fresh-
