pecially to attend the Library

were recently married.
Pvt. Kiler Updyke left last
Thursday for Camp Stoneman after
spending a ninety day furlough
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Palmer Updyke of Kunkle. He
expects to be sent to Japan.
Mr. and Mrs, Albert Parrish |
have moved from the homestead
on Main street to the Heights. The
Main street house will be sold.
Mrs. M. A. Wilcox, Lake road,
spent several days this week wisit-
ing her cousin at Tunkhannock.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter King of
Lake road are on a two weeks’
motor trip through the New Eng-
land States.
Mr. and Mrs. John Davies and
son, Jeffrey Scott of Princeton,
N. J., were holiday weekend guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Davies
of Parsonage street. Jeffrey was
baptized in the Dallas Methodist
Church on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Sedler of
Mill street had as holiday week-
end guests the latter’s sister, Mrs.

Therese Kuehn of New York City.

Dick Ide, Huntsville, is a patient
at Presbyterian Hospital, Philadel-
phia where he submitted to a leg
operation.

ertown, spent the holiday weekend

Warren, R. I., visiting her daugh-

Armond Lapane. Miss Jane Har-
rison, Machell avenue, is visiting
her mother, Mrs. Thomas Harrison
at West Barrington, R. 1.
Mrs. LaDesha Meckes who has
ben staying with ‘Miss Mame Mel-
ville in the Daddow house, Machell
avenue, left two weeks ago for her
home in Connelsville, Pa.

sau, Bahama Islands, arrived this
week to spend some time with Mr.
Rees’s mother and father, Mr. and

ley barn Saturday and added an
old etching and a sauer kraut crock
to the Auction.
Mrs. W. B. Risley and her daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.

Nicholson are on a motor trip
through New England States and
Canada.

Surprise Party For
Mrs. George Taylor
A surprise party for Mrs. George
Taylor, Lake Township, held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Garinger, Friday night, netted Mrs.
Taylor a pair of ruby glass hurri-
cane lamps. The guest of honor has
recently resigned as head of the
Home Economics Department at
Lake Township School.
The weather was perfect for an
outdoor covered dish supper. The
affair was referred to ahead of time
as a faculty get-together celebrat-
ing the end of the school year, with
no inkling of the reason for the
party.
Members of the faculty and
guests present were: Mr. and Mrs.
George Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Ray-
mond Garinger, Mrs. Dean Kocher,
Mrs. Grace Martin, Miss Bethia Al-
len, Miss Betty Sullivan, James
Krum, Mrs. James Worth, Miss Ha-
zel Baer, Mr. and Mrs. Bond Ros-
engrant, Arnold = Garinger, Miss
Loiuse Schlick, Miss Eleanor Hum-
phrey, and Douglas Taylor.
Guests At Farley Home
Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Farley,
Beaumont, had as their guests over
the Fourth of July weekend Mrs.
Farley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Coates of Swarthmore, and
their eldest son, Robert Farley and
his wife, the former Barbara Med-
land. The young Farleys live in
Pittsburgh, and Bob is associated
with the Standard Oil Company.
Accompanying them is their year-
old daughter, Frances Ann. Bar-
bara will remain until Monday
with the baby. Bob had to go
back to Pittsburgh late Tuesday,
but will return for his family after
Barbara has had a chance to visit
her brother and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Huntley, in Waymart,
her former home.
Reading and Tea
W. S. C. S. of Kunkle Methodist
Church will sponsor a reading and
tea in the Community Hall Wed-
nesday, August 16 when Mrs. How-
ard Murphy of Scranton will read
“Happily Ever After”. There will
also be a bake sale.

to her home on Baldwin street af-
ter spending the last six weeks
visiting her sister, Mrs. Harry Hill-
man at Lincoln, Neb., and her bro-
ther and wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. J.
Atkins at Wayne, Neb. While she
was there Mrs. Hillman underwent
a serious operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Arch Brooks of
West Dallas entertained employees
and personnel of Brooks and Com-

Mr. and Mrs, David Jenkins of
Parrish street entertained a num-
ber of friends at their cottage at
Bear Creek on the Fourth of July.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. Dan

ards, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Richard-
son, Mr. and Mrs. Harris Haycox,

at Traver’s Park on Sunday. They

Robert W. Bodycomb Is
At Training Center
Robert W. Bodycomb, seaman re-
cruit,’ USNR, son of Dr. and Mrs. R.
M. Bodycomb of 47 Main Street,
Dallas, is a member of a group of
2,000 Naval Reserve recruits who
are undergoing two-week basic
training at the Naval Training Cen-
ter, Great Lakes, Ill.
His training closely parallels that
given to a recruit in the regular
Navy. As a member of a 60-man
company he has courses in military
training, first aid, physical train-
ing, small arms fire, ordnance and
gunnery, seamanship and fire fight-
ing. He also has full access to all
recreational facilities, which include
a hobby shop, library, game room
| and an indoor swimming pool.
While at Great Lakes, he is able
to visit Chicago or Milwaukee on a
-12-hour liberty. Next year he will
be eligible for a two-week cruise on
a Naval Reserve Vessel.
