College and is spending the summer

and Mrs. Joseph Jewel and son,
Bob, drove to Syracuse last Sunday
and brought David, student there,
home with them. Bob has just com-
pleted his junior year at Blooms-

Miss Betty Culbert of Washing-
ton, D.C., former Dallas resident,
spent some time at her home on
Baldwin street recently breaking
up her home. She expects to sell
it.
Frances Dorrance of Huntsville
has returned from Vasser College
where she attended the fiftieth re-
union of her class. Spending a
few. days with her is her fresh-
man roommate and president of
the class, Mrs. Walter A. Forbes
of Rockford, Ill

bott and children, Freeland K. and
Deborah Ann of Medford, Mass,
are spending a few days with his
parents, Rev. and Mrs. Frank K.
Abbott of Lehman. Mr. and Mrs.
Abbott will go on to Washington,
D. C., for a month of research

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hedden and
son, Carl of Machell avenue will
move to their ‘cottage at Lake
Nuangola next week.
Mrs. Martt Harding and children,
Martt Jr., Todd, Howard, Susie and
William of Raleigh, N. C., arrived
this week to spend sometime with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M.
B. Hicks Jr., Demunds road. Martt
drove them as far as Washington
then returned to Raleigh
where he will receive his Ph. D.
at University of North Carolina
in August.
Mrs. Thomas Graham and chil-
dren, Jane and Tommie of Pioneer
avenue are spending two weeks at
Avolon, N. J. Mr. Graham will
drive them down and go for them.

Richard’ Sands returned from
Nesbitt Hospital Saturday after be-
ing a patient there for a week.
Dick is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Sands of Carverton.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hedden, Ma-
chell avenue, spent the weekend
in New York City. Carl was guest
of Billy Dettmore.
Mr. and Mrs. John Luketic and
daughters, Barbara and Shirley and
Mrs. Michael Luketic of Pittsburgh
and Peter Luketic of Chicago, Ill,
were weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Wallace Traver of Harveys
Lake. They came here to attend
the dLuketic-Traver wedding .
Mrs. Margaret Hildebrant will
entertain members of her card
club at her home on Norton ave-

Mr. and Mrs. Max Dreher and
son, Herbert of Park street at-
tended commencement exercises at
Penn State College Monday. Max
Jr. was a member of the graduating
class. He has accepted a position
with the Thrift Shoe Stores.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Clark and chil-
dren, Sandra and Dick of Hunts-
‘ville road will spend the weekend
in Philadelphia and at Bangor visit-
ing Mrs. Clark’s mother, Mrs. Wil-
liam Messinger.
Mrs. Jack Barnes and children,
Jackie and Ann of Elmcrest drive
are in Cleveland, Ohio, visiting
Mrs. Barnes’ sister and parents.
Mr. and Mrs, George Turn, E.
Center street, Shavertown, have as
guest the latter's mother, Mrs.
John C. Atwater of Orange, N.J.
Penny Turn has been ill for the
past seven weeks. °
William Price Sr. of Fernbrook
is a patient at Nesbitt Hospital
where he is suffering from a heart
attack. He was stricken while at
work at the Acme Store on Mon-
day and rushed down in an am-
bulance. He is improving.
Mrs. Wesley Himmler of Lake
road attended the D. of A. Con-
vention at Scranton Monday, Tues-
day and Wednesday.
Mrs. Theodore Blanchard of Ide-
town spent ‘several days this week
at Ocean Grove attending the Pres-
byterian Conference.

Mrs. Joseph Schmerer
Attends 36th Reunion
While Mrs. Joseph Schmerer was
attending the thirty-sixth reunion
of the class of 1914 at Edwardsville
High School, she received a long
distance telephone call from her
son, David, a student at Syracuse
University saying that he was leav-
ing by plane with a former class-
mate, Walter Coulter, for St. Croix,
Virgin Islands, where they will
spend the summer with Coulter's
parents who are in the
States diplomatic service.
It was a great day for Mrs.
Schmerer. Ten of the fifteen orig-
inal members of her class were
back for the reunion. Three are de-
ceased, one lives at such a distance
that she could not return and an-
other was giving an address be-
fore a nurses association the same
day in Michigan.
Although “all of the boys in the
class have made good and all of
the girls are useful citizens”. The
outstanding member is J. Russell
Herman, son of a former principal
of Edwardsville Schools, and now
secretary of the Metropolitan Life
Insurance Company. Mr. Herman
was this years’ commencement
speaker at Edwardsville.
LaRue M. Swayze 3rd
Mr. and Mrs. LaRue M. Swayze
Jr. have announced the birth of
a baby boy, LaRue 3rd at General
Hospital May 26. Mrs. Swayze is
the former Mary Ann Zekas. This
is the first child of the Juniors and
the first grand child of the Senior
Swayzes and of Grandma and
Grandpa Zekas. And are they
proud!
Entertain For Lewises
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dungey en-
tertained at a party Saturday night
honoring Attorney and Mrs. B. B.
Lewis who recently celebrated
their wedding anniversay. Present
were Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Him-
mler, Mr. and Mrs. William Baker,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shiber, the
Lewises and the Dungeys.
Mr, and Mrs. Fred Henning of
Cincinnati, Ohio, spent several days
this week visiting Mr. and Mrs. S.
R. Henning of Trucksville.
Mr. and Mrs. James Besecker of
Norton avenue had as dinner
guests Tuesday night Mr. ard Mrs.
Stanley W. Schooley of West Pitts-
ton..
James Besecker has returned to
his home on Norton avenue after
completing the year at University
of Pennsylvania. He is taking up
accounting.
Mr. and Mrs. Harris Haycox,
Main road, spent several days this
week in New York City.
Mrs. John Dungey of Lake
road will leave tomorrow for
Ocean Grove where she will serve
as delegate from First Presbyterian
Church of Wilkes-Barre at the
Presbyterian Conference.
Mrs. Harris Haycox has returned
to her home on Main road after
spending several weeks with her
family in Seattle, Wash.
Mrs. Richard Rowlands and chil-
dren, Dilys, Betsy and Judy of
‘Trucksville are spending the week
at North. Lake.
Larry Isaacs of Maywood, N. J,
will arrive Saturday to spend the
weekend with his mother, Mrs.
Ethel Isaacs and his sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Cheney of Demunds road. Mrs.
Isaacs will return with him to be
his guest for a couple of weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Kresge of
Ocean Grove, N.J., were weekend
guests of the latter's aunt and
uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Reedy
of Center Hill road.
Mrs. Ethel Isaacs has returned
from Benton where she was guest
of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Diltz. She
celebrated her birthday anniver-
sary Tuesday with a family dinner
at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Philip
Cheney.
Mary Dora Scott will celebrate
her birthday anniversary tomor-
row, Saturday.
Ralph Rood is able to be out
again after an illness of several

Trucksville, became the bride of
George Blake Ritchie, son of Mrs.
Alice Blake Ritchie of Gore street,
Wilkes-Barre, in St. Dominick
Church, Wilkes-Barre, Saturday
morning. at 11 o’clock.. Father
Charles Carroll performed the
double ring ceremony.
Bridesmaids were Miss Doris
Henning, sister of the bride, and
Miss Nancy Flynn, cousin of
the bridegroom. Best man was
Donald McLaughlin, of Flush-
ing, N.Y., a former classmate of the
bridegroom, and John Clifford, Bos-
ton, and Carl Henning, brother of
the bride, were ushers.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore white satin gown
designed with tight bodice and full
skirt, peter pan collar of seed pearls
and long tight sleeves. Her finger
tip veil fell from a coronet and she
carried a shower bouquet of white
gardenias and red pinoccio roses.
Attendants chose white organdy
| bolerino dresses with traces of red
and organdy bonnets. They carried
white sweet peas and red pinoccio
roses.

crepe and lace with egg shell acces-

sweetheart roses, and Mrs. Ritchie,
navy crepe with matching acces-
sories and gardenias.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion was held at Brokenshire’s Ho-
tel and the couple left for a trip to
Canada.
Mrs. Ritchie was graduated from
Kingston Township High School and
East Stroudsburg State Teacher's
College. During World War 2 she
served as first lieutenant with the
Army Medical Corps. She is pre-
sently employed as therapist with
Dr. George Wagner in Haverford.
Mr. Ritchie was graduated from
Coughlin High School and Haver-
ford College. He served with the
Army Air Corps during the War.
This past year he completed his
first year in law at Dickinson Uni-
versity.
The couple will reside in Manoa,
Pa.
A number of parties honoring
the couple were given in Philadel-
phia and Haverford. June 10 Miss
Ellen Ritchie, aunt of the bride-
groom entertained at a dinner
party at her home on North Main
street. Night of rehearsal Mrs. Alice
Blake Ritchie was hostess to mem-
bers of the wedding party at a din-
ner party.

Lake Nuangola Wednesday night.

Before Seminary Prom
Robert B. Currie, son of Mr. and
{ Mrs. Robert D. Currie, Druid Hill,
a member of next year’s sophomore
class at Wyoming Seminary, was
host to a group of classmates and
friends at a buffet supper Tues-
day night, just before the Sem-
inary Prom.
Guests were: Carolyn Goeringer,
Liesel Von Storch, Betsy Everett,
Eleanor Pearce, Jeanne Malkemes,
Allen Davies, Sherwood Wilson,

Library Book Club
To Hold Final Meeting
Back Mountain, Library Book
Club will hold its final meeting for
the summer season on Wednes-
day, June 21, at 2 p.m. With the
library auction on July 7 and 8
imminent, time usually spent in
listening to a speaker or taking
part in a book discussion will be
devoted to more timely talk about
the auction. Tea will be served as
usual.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene DeVincen-
tis of Main road, Trucksville, an-

Monday, June 12. Mother and

Hostess At Shower
Mrs. Ted Hinkle, Lincoln Drive,
Shavertown, entertained at a per-
sonal shower honoring Miss Helen
Ann Scureman, bride-elect, Satur-
day evening. Miss Scureman will
marry Harry Reed of Kingston to-
morrow.
The party table was attractive
with center piece of mixed white
garden flowers and white tapers.
Favors were individual sachets, Miss
Scureman received lovely gifts.
