Laid At Rest
Andrew M. Hontz Is
Buried Near School
By Ralph Rood :
The many friends of Andrew
M. Hontz were saddened but not
surprised to hear of his death,
which occurred at 6:30 Monday
morning in General Hospital, where
he had been a patient since May 3.
Born May, 1877, at Sweet Val-
ley, the son of Andrew and Polly
Anna Shaw Hontz, he had al-
ways made his home in that
vicinity.
A sister, Mrs. O. S. Sutliff,
Huntington Mills, a brother, John
P. Hontz, Sweet Valley, several
nieces and nephews are his sur-
vivors.
Mr. Hontz received his first
schooling in the one room building
known as the Cramer Hook School,
Ross Township.
Leaving that one room school,
he attended Pleasant Hill Academy,
a private school, at that ‘time con-
ducted by Prof. Evan B. Beishline.
He taught for several years un-
der Provisional Certificates issued
by County Superintendent.
Later he attended Indiana State
Normal School and Grove City Col-
lege.
After teaching forty years in the
Public Schools of the County, he
retired about ten years ago.
Andrew, as we all knew him was
of a quiet, unassuming disposition,
a good neighbor, a dependable
friend.
Other than teaching, his chief
hobbies were hunting, fishing and
gardening. In his garden we found
not only vegetables, but plenty of
strawberries and raspberries. His
principal hangout ' for fishing was
“Grassy Pond.”
We have sat many hours in a
boat with him on “Grassy”. If
he would lose a fish he would
smile and say, “Well, I lost that
one. Must go after another.”
A teacher of an adult Bible Class
for many years in the Church of
Christ Sunday School, of which
Church he was a faithful member,
and deacon.
He had been a member of Sweet
Valley Lodge, I.O.O.F., for many
years.
Some months ago he was a pa-
tient in General Hospital, his con-
dition improving, was removed to
the home of his niece, Mrs. Albert
Herring, Huntington Mills, where
he had made his home until his
removal to hospital about two
weeks ago.
Funeral services were held yes-
terday afternoon from the funeral
home, Sweet Valley, with addi-
tional services in the Church of
Christ, conducted by Rev. E. J.
Waterstripe assisted by Rev. Wil-
liam Price, pastor of Huntington
Mills Methodist Church.
Interment was in Broadway
Cemetery, along side of the Broad-
way school house where he was a
former teacher.
Pallbearers, nephews of the de-
ceased were: Almon and Elmer
Birth, Stanley, Carl, Howard, and
Arthur Hontz.
Lions See “Movies”
Three short educational movies
were shown at last Wednesday's
meeting of Harveys Lake Lions
Club at Brokenshire’s Hotel.
President Calvin McHose ap-
pointed Llewellyn Williams to head
the nominating committee, and
delegates were chosen to attend
the State Convention at Nittany
Lion Den, State College.
Lions will give Boy Scouts of
the Lake and Noxen an outdoor
party, place and date to be an-
nounced.
Plans for fund raising for aid to
children, assistance to the blind,
and community projects were dis-
cussed.

Rosebreasted Grosbeak :.
Doc and Louise Rutherford found
‘| a rose breasted grosbeak feeding on
their sun flower seeds this week.
They didn’t know whether to hope
it was a scout that would bring
back a flock or to shoo it away,
since it seemed to be as avaricious
as its yellow cousins. And sun
flower seeds are mighty scarce at
this point! :
