Girls Teams To
Play For Title
Township, Borough And
Laketon In Contests
Back Mountain League girls’
basketball teams will play a series
of playoff games this coming week,
following a two-week enforced lay-
over due to a misinterpetation of
this season’s regulations.
Dallas Borough will meet Dallas
Township on a neutral floor to
determine the first half winner.
‘ Dallas Methodist and St.
® Three feature games are the at-
traction at Dallas Borough Satur-
| day night as the Back Mountain
Church League sends its six top
teams in action to settle ties in
the first six positions.
Paul's
will battle it out for the pennant
in the first game. Both teams have
"identical records;
15 won, 3 lost.
In their two encounters this sea-
son the leaders have broken even;
Dallas winning the first game and
St. Paul's the second. Dallas will
depend on Charlie and Clint Brobst
to do their scoring while St. Paul's
will have stalwarts Art Kitchen,
Tex Wilson and Bill Morgan for
its points.
The second game matches two
teams, Huntsville Christian and
Kunkle, each of which was headed
in opposite directions at the sea-
son's end. For Huntsville it has
been a long uphill climb towards
third place. After a slow start, the
team gradually hit its stride and
improved bit by bit reaching its
{peak in the 37-34 victory over
league-leading Dallas last Satur-
day. On the other hand, Kunkle,
which started out in a blaze of
glory and dominated third place
all season, has slackened off and
must regain some of its early sea-
son form in order to become a
| dangerous opponent. Huntsville will
have its top scorers, Bob and Ar-
inold Price, to match
: Kunkle’s sparkplugs, Jim Knecht
(and “Pete” Dymond.
against |
Following this Dallas Township will | St. Therese’s ‘meets Shavertown
play Laketon, again on a neutral | Methodist in the third game. Both
floor, for the second half champion- | squads are of the “hot 'n cold”
ship. Then the winners of the two
previous games will meet to finally
determine the full season champion.
This final game will be omitted if
Dallas Township wins both of its
contests.
Dallas Township has two victor-
ies to its credit over Dallas Bor-
ough, one a thrilling 27-26 triumph
and has split one apiece with Lake-
ton this season. The key game in
the whole mixup was Kingston
Township's 17-17 tie “with Dallas
Borough in the second half.
Local Cagers Entered
In Rogers Tournament
Three local teams have entered
the annual YMCA Rogers basket-
ball tourney which begins Monday.
They are Bowman's Restaurant con-
sisting of ex-Dallas Borough and
Township players, coached and
managed by Bill Hart and Al Bow-
man; Deater’s Recreation consist-
ing of Harvey's Lake boys and
handled by James Krum, Laketon
High School coach; and Miners Mills
Legion Post 741 composed of Kings-
ton Township and Fairview ball-
players and coached by George Mc-
Cutcheon.
