THE POST, FRIDAY, MAY 27, 1949
ALDERSON
Rev. and Mrs; James Hilbert of
Harvey's Lake, on Tuesday of last
week atended the sessions of the
United Nations Assembly at Lake
Success, N. Y. They were part of
a large group of Methodist min-
isters and their wives of the Oneon-
ta and Wilkes-Barre districts of the
Wyoming Conference, who made
the one-day trip.
During the morning hours a visit
to the General Asembly was made
at Flushing Meadows, Long Island,
where the difficult questions of the
trusteeship of the Italian Colonies
was being discussed. The Polish
representative of the Assembly was
giving the view of the Russians.
Dinner was then had in the large
United Nations cafeteria at Lake
Success, after which two of the
officials of the Assembly spoke at
length to the party regarding the
organization and set-up of the
United Nations, which is composed
of fifty-eight nations.
The party then attended for some
time, the discussion that was taking
place in the Committee for Human
Rights, of which Mrs. Eleanor
Roosevelt is the chairman. The
party was privileged to hear the
representatives of France, Austral-
ia, India and Russia speak.
Each person attending was given
a special hearing device, on which
it was posible to hear the language
being spoken, or by turning the
dial, to hear the interpretation as
being given by an expert who spoke
in another language. Every word
was being translated and inter-
preted into a number of different
languages. One had the choice of
listening to any of the languages
being spoken. Mrs. Roosevelt proved
to be at her best in her position
as chairman of this group. Her
charming personality seemed to be
the means of her ability to lead the
group.
On the return trip home, the
party stopped for some time at La
Guardia Air Field where many
large planes were constantly com-
ing and going. Supper was then
had at one of the many Chinese

Clean That
Heating Plant Now
The best time to clean your
home heating system is right
after you shut it down for the
summer. ,
The warm, humid months of
summer are hard on a heating
plant that is filled with ashes
and soot from a winter's use.
The combination of moisture
and soot causes corrosion and
rust on the heating surfaces
and consequently impairs the
efficient operation of the sys-
tem.
Many people make the
mistake of putting off this
work until the start of the
heating season, not realizing
the value of having this work
done immediately after the
heating season is over, and
thereby lessening possibilities
for deterioration of the heat-
ing surfaces in furnace or boil-
er.
Heating experts estimate
that the average heating plant
remains useful much longer if
it is properly cleaned im-
mediately after the fire is
allowed to go out and of
course, this work is extremely
important if a mechanical fir-
ing unit such as an oil burner
or stoker is used.
We urge home owners to get
this work done at once as it is
a wise investment.
