vi Te SA TE RRL EES PAGE SIX THE POST, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 35, 1948 BILL'S BITS By Bill Hart — a a Tunkhannock will be out to put the finishing touches on their claim for the Back Mountain crown as they meet the Redskins of Dallas Twnship in an all-important con- test under the lights on the Tunk- hannock field tonight . . . . On the strength of their comparative rec- ords, the Tunks rate a heavy fav- orite as they sport wins over Moosic, Lehman and Kingston Township . . However, they could do no better than hold Avoca down to three touchdowns, which is exactly the same margin of victory Avoca held over Dallas : . Meanwhile the Redskins still hunting for their third win, are out to atone for the haphazard playing in their loss to Lehman last Wednesday . . . . A win by Tunkhannock will insure them of the mythical Back Mountain cham- pionship, whereas a loss would complicate matters and place them in a possible tie with either Kings- ton or Dallas Townships. Kingston Township plays host to Shickshinny tomorrow afternoon GOVERNMENT SURPLUS 0. D. Shickshinny boasts of a 20-0 victory over Dupont and a 33-12 massacre of Wilkes-Barre Town- ship . . . . The Kaytees have won only one game this season, an 18-0 victory over Lehman . . « . The Lehman Scotties meet Moosic Sat- urday and are easy favorites to nail down their third triumph of the season . . . . Moosic has lost by such lopsided scores. as Wyo- ming 42-0, Tunkhannock 25-0, Avoca 23-0 and Jenkins Township 19-0. . Last weekend was ‘disastrous for Back Mountain teams as West Pittston shellacked Kingston Town- ship 32-0, Avoca took Tunkhan- nock 19-0 and Lehman won over Dallas Township 14-7. The Green and Gold of Avoca sailed through Tunkhannock 19- 0. in what was supposed to be one of its toughest contests this sea- son . . . . The two backs, Clifford and Nolan, who did so much gain- ing for Avoca when they played Dallas and Lehman, also led the parade against Tunkhannock . . . . Avoca chalked up its sixth victory to remain undefeated, one of the few teams in the Valley with such a record. West Pittston swarmed over Kingston Township to the tune of 32-0 for its fourth and most im- pressive victory in the current campaign . The renowned Katie aerial attack failed to click, completing only two out of eighteen passes and this spelled defeat for the Orange and Black . . . Scoring in every period, a povwertnl West Pittston backfield, minus the services of star back, to shreds. All conversations are now lead- ing up to the traditional Thanks- giving Day clash between the Red ‘and White of Dallas Township and the Orange and Black of Kingston Township . . . With only two more games before this important event, both teams are preparing now to gain a victory in the Tur- key Day classic . . . . To date Dal- las seems favored scoring 67 points to its opponents 88, while Kings- ton Township has scored only 25 But the schedule favored Dallas in the earlier games, so that now the Redskins face Tunkhannock and Forty Fort on the two remain- ing Saturdays, whereas Kingston Township has already encountered both these teams, losing by close scores, 9-0 Forty Fort and 14-13 Tunkhannock . . . . The showing Dallas Township makes against Forty Fort and Tunkhannock will go a long way toward determining the relative chances of each team . It is a rough choice and so as the odds-maker says “You pays your money and you takes your choice.” Jack Kirby, tore the Kaytee line points to its opponents 93 . . . .'
