Pioneer avenue, Shavertown will celebrate their fiftieth wedding an- niversary on Tuesday, April 27 with a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown at nine. Mr. and Mrs. Laux were married in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes- Barre by Rev. Joseph Bidlingmier JACOB LAUX on April 27, 1898. Mrs. Laux was the former Helene M. Schmidt. Mr. Laux has conducted J. Laux and Sons Manufacturing Company ma- chine shop and metal stampings business in Shavertown for the past twenty-seven years. The couple was blessed with nine children, eight of whom are living; Frederich, Trucksville, Paul, Ray- mond, Joseph, Mrs. Helen Rother, Mrs. Ruth Waldow all of Shaver- town, Harold of Wilkes-Barre, and Robert of Dallas. They also have fifteen grandchildren. Mrs. Christine Malkemes, Surprised On Birthday Mrs. Christine Malkemes was guest of honor at a lovely surprise tea given by her daughter, Mrs. Harry Goeringer of N. Main street, Wilkes-Barre, Monday afternoon to help her celebrate her birthday anniversary. She was seventy- eight years old. The tea table was attractive with centerpiece of cut spring flowers and decorated birthday cake. Mrs. Malkemes was presented with a bouquet of cut flowers by members of ‘the St. Paul's Ladies Auxiliary and another by her little great- grandchild, Paul Candalino.
