(International) Dallas Legionaires won the Bi- County League pennant last Sunday by defeating St. Michael's 12 tos5 on the latter’s field before a large crowd of St. Michael's school boys and loyal Dallas followers. The game wound up a nice sea- son for Dallas as far as regular League games go, but this Sunday the Legionaires will enter the three-game playoff for the League Championship when they meet the fast Carverton team on Dallas Township Athletic Field. During the season just closed the local team won nine games and lost three giving them a percent- age of .750. There were few highlights in the St. Michael's game, but the boys played good ball and looked little like that team that met several de- | feats in early season contests. Y. and then came to Noxen and Harvey's Lake, where he spent 10 years at the Alderson-Kunkle Charge. From 1935 to 1937 he was pastor at Bennett Memorial-St. Andrews Churches, Wilkes-Barre serving there until his retirement. Since then he has resided with hig family on Westmoreland avenue. Legionaires Defeat St. Michaels To Take Bi-County League Pennant 2ires are excited over e League pennant and ‘to fight for the pionship and the trophy. A real treat is in store for loyal Dallas fans if they continue to fol- low the Legionaires’ games. They will mot only see hard fought baseball played right down until the last man is out, but there will be other attractions. ‘Manager Don Grose has arranged to have a public address system installed at the field so that favor- ite recordings can be played. An announcer will also be at the “mike” to give a description of each player, line-up and batting averages as well as the highlights Conyngham Folk 'To Have Picnic Many Local Growers Plan To Attend Conyngham Valley Growers are planning their first annual Com- munity Picnic this Saturday after- noon and evening on the Conyng- ham Borough School Grounds and many local people who have friends in that fertile valley are planning to attend. George Ernst, cashier of Conyng- ham National Bank, is general chairman assisted by a large com- mittee. The program will start at 1:30 with a band concert. There will also be speakers, and a County Horseshoe Pitching Contest. The two highest contestants will repre- sent Luzerne County at the State Championships at Harrisburg in January. There will be games for young and old and a baseball game between Conyngham and Jeddo. In the evening there will be a band concert, movies and at 9:30 two streets will be blocked off for square dancing.
