Recommended by the organization’s post-war planning committee, a def inite program for activities after the war, including a new bridge across Susquehanna at North Street and another opposite Courtright Avenue, as as the widening of several highways and bridges and the construction union station in this city for railroads and buses, was unanimously adop a meeting of directors of the Wyoming Valley Motor Club in Hotel Sterl recently. FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE PROJECTS INCLUDED IN THE REPORT: Widening the present highway 115 from Bear Creek to Effort to three lanes of concrete. A new rerouted highway from Hillside on Route 309 at the junc- tion of Pennsylvania 115 to Wil- liamsport. A new highway built on the top of the dike from Market Street bridge on the West Side to River Street in Forty Fort. A new bridge over the Susquehan- na River, north of the North Street bridge, to connect with Courtright Avenue and the East End bridge. A new bridge at North Street. Improvement of the highway from the City line at Wilkes-Barre to Mid- vale on Route 92. This suggested im- provement has already been acted upon by the State and the project completed. A new three lane highway from Wilkes-Barre to Mocanaqua on the east side of the river. A new bridge at Retreat. Widening of the two bridges on Widening of the South Main Street bridge over the Central Rail- road tracks in Hanover Township. Relocating of U. S. 11 at Wyoming Valley Airport and additional hang- ers and renting facilities. Flood Control at Wyoming Valley Airport and additional hangers and renting facilities. Union station for railroads, buses, ete. Paving of the Ashley by-pass and all approaches with concrete. The contract for this project has already been-let by the State. . Paving of the black top of Route 115 from the traffic circle to the first cut. Repaving of the Market Street bridge. Straightening of U. S. 11 from Spur gasoline station to the Ply- mouth Borough line. A new bridge at Plymouth. Correct low spots on Route 92 where water gathers at present time. This includes spots at Carpenter's Creek, Forrest Hills and Mangan- iello’s. Elimination of Oxford Street rail crossing at Lee Park. and the Pennsylvania Motor Federation many Legislative changes are obtained, yearly, for the benefit of motorists. For example: Reducing license plate fees to $10.00 for all makes of automobiles. Advocating that the State of Pennsylvania keep Highway Motor Funds, inviolate, for the purpose of road construction and repairs. ' U. S. 11 between Kingston and Plymouth. The club suggested highway from Effort to Bath. Commencing at a point in the village of Effort, passing Lake Weir and continuing through the villages of Kintnersville and Klechknersville and crossing Chestnut Ridge to the base of the Blue Mountains at which point a tunnel will be built approximately 6,200 feet long to continue this highway in a straight line through Chapman’s Quarries to Bath, Pa. This proposed highway will be four lane concrete the entire distance. New road between Glen Lyon and Wilkes-Barre via Nanticoke.
