COLLEGE MISERICORDIA
String Quartette
The Glee Club of College Miseri-
cordia appeared at Irem Temple,
Wednesday evening, at 8:30 o’clock,
April 30, for its annual spring per-
formance, A magnificent and in-
spiring program was given.
As a special feature the College
String Quartette played. The Quar-
tette is a new group organized this
year through the efforts of Miss
Marie Petrullo, a member of the
faculty of the Music Department at
College Misericordia.

Sodality Card Party
On Wednesday, April 23, at the
College, the Blessed Virgin Sodality
sponsored the annual Card and
Bingo Party. The Misses Jean Za-
leta and Angeline Agati were co-
chairman of the affair.

Sub Freshman Day
Sub Freshman Day, the occasion
of the entertainment of High School
seniors by the college was held Sat-
urday afternoon, April 26th. The
upper classmen entertained over 150
guests.
The Sub Freshmen assembled in
the Lounge where they were wel-
comed by the Dean and other facul-
ty members. The Little Theatre
feature was a ‘Style Parade’’, spon-
sored by the Home Economics stu-
dents; music was furnished by Mar-
rian Jones. A motion picture ‘“Cam-
pus Life at College Misericordia”
concluded the indoor entertainment.
After visiting the various depart-
ments indoors, there was a W. A. A.
Exhibition on the campus. Miss
Jeanne Connolly had charge of an
Archery Tournament which was
held on the Hockey Field.” The
tournament consisted of clout shoot-
ing, target shooting at 30 and 40
yards.
The day concluded with an in-
formal reception in the cafeteria,
where Miss Jane Cronin, Vice Presi-
dent of the Senior Class gave an in-
teresting address. Several musical
numbers completed the program.

Congress On Poetry
Miss Mary Claire McCauley, ’39
and Miss Regina Kelly, '43 of Col-
lege Misericordia accompanied fac-
ulty members to the Congress on
Poetry held at Fordham University,
New York, Sunday, April 27th. The
Parents’ Organization
Dallas Township Band Parents’
Organization will sponsor a party
for band members and parents Fri-
day evening, May 2, at 7:30. Com-
mittee members will be Mrs. Har-
old Smith and Mrs. Forest Kunkle.
Refreshments will be served and
entertainment furnished.
Congress commemorated the Tenth
Anniversary of the founding of the
Catholic Poetry Society of America.
Physical Education Conference
Miss Isabel Costa, Director of Phy-
sical Education at College Miseri-
cordia attended the Conference on
Health, Physical Education and Rec-
reation in National Defense conduct-
ed by the School of Physical Edu-
cation of State College, April 26th.
Educational Convention
Miss Catherine McCandless, pro-
fessor of Education at Misericordia,
represented the College at the Edu-
cational Convention held at Harris-
burg, April 25-26th.

Public Speaking Conference
The 32nd Annual Meeting of the
Eastern Public Speaking Conference
was held in New York City recently
at the Hotel New Yorker. Presi-
dent W. H. Yaeger of George Wash-
ington University, Washington, D. C.
presided. Miss Agnes Loughlin, of
the Speech Department attended.

Scholarships
Misericordia’s Music Department
announced that the following schools
were in competition for the Music
Scholarships:
Kingston High School, Meyers, G.
A. R., Jenkins Township, St. Mary's,
Wilkes-Barre, Sacred Heart, Wil-
liamstown, and Wiliam Penn, Phil-
adelphia. Examinations for the
scholarships were held Saturday
morning at the college, April 26th.
The winner will be announced later.

May Queen and Attendants
Miss Mollie Crossin, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crossin, 289,
Bennett St., Luzerne, was chosen
May Queen at the College, Monday,
April 28. Miss Crossin will receive
the B. S. degree from College Miseri-
cordia in Home Economics in June
and will begin one year’s interne-
ship in the dietary department of
Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia,
September 1st. Miss Mary Me-
Groarty, Swoyerville, and Miss Hel-
en Donohoe will be her attendants.
