George Lasher, Main St., Shaver-
town, is confined to his home with
mumps.
Russell Cease, who is employed in
New Jersey, spent last week end at
his home in Shavertown. Mr. and
Mrs. Ira Cease and son, Billy, of
Scranton, spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Cease.
Mr. and Mrs. John Streader and
children have moved from the Sgar-
let ‘Apartment to Easton where Mr.
Streader is employed.
Miss Margaret Gerlach has ac-
cepted a position with the Dallas of-
fice of the Commonwealth Telephone
Co.

Private Sterling McMichael of In-
diantown Gap spent the week end
at his home in Shavertown.
Mrs. Earl Husted of Chase has
left for New York City to spend
some time with her husband who is
receiving medical treatment there.
Donald Veitch, a former resident
of Shavertown, a member of the
95th Ordinance Division of the reg-
ular army stationed at Aberdeen,
Md., was recently promoted to rank
of sergeant. This is quite an honor
as Mr. Veitch has been in the army
only seven months and such pro-
motions usually come only after
more experience.

Mrs. Bert Hughes of Forty Fort
has been spending a few days with
her brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. George Prater. Mrs. Pra-
ter is recovering from a recent op-
eration.
Pete Makemes, of Shavertown, has
purchased four and a half acres of
land adjoining the Kingston Town-
ship High School and will shortly
break ground for a house which he
and his family expect to occupy by
mid-summer.
Mrs. Clive Hope, Pioneer Ave., is
mourning the death of her father,
Brice Shultz, who died Sunday in
Nesbitt Hospital. :
Ladies Auxiliary of Shavertown
Firemen will meet Monday evening
Mrs. Albert Drasher, soloist at
Kingston Presbyterian Church, and
Miss Alberta Zimmerman, assistant
organist at St. John’s Church,
Wilkes-Barre, presented a recital in
St. Paul’s Church Sunday evening.
The program was well received by
the congregation. :
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ash and
son, Bobby, Miss Ruth Dressel, of
Shavertown, and Miss Helen Grant,
of Trucksville, visited Merlin Werk-
heiser and Sgt. Terrence Roche at
Indiantown Gap, Sunday.
A regular meeting of the Towns-
end Club of Shavertown will be held
Tuesday evening in the hose house.

Boland of Wilkes-Barre were over-
night guests of Mrs. Harold Ash,
Shag Bark Drive, on Tuesday.
Mrs. Howard Woolbert, Main St.,
Shavertown, has returned from Gen-
eral Hospital where she was under
observation several days last week.

Gertrude McDermott of Ashley spent

A second check up is being made
of the pupils of Shavertown grade
school to prevent further spread of
mumps. Parents are asked to co-
operate with the school staff in this
matter. ; :

Monday afternoon to extinguish a
brush fire on the hill in the rear

Speaks To Men's Club
Men’s Club of Trucksville Metho-
dist Church, Trucksville, met in the
church rooms last Monday evening.
Mr. Samuel Davis presided at a
business meeting and Rev. Francis
Freeman spoke to the club. Those
present: Graydon Carl, Donald An-
derson, Samuel Davis, Harold Croon,
Robert Bulford, Joseph Bulford, Don-
ald Oldershaw, James Trebilcex,
Archie Baker, Clyde Haskins, James
Baker, Daniel Knorr, Louis Wilcox,
L. Coolbaugh, J. C. Lewis, Bruce
Vong, Thomas Carl, William Hewitt,
George Turn, Sheldon Bennett and
Rev. Harry M. Savacool.
Richard Harris Buried
Funeral services for Richard Har-
ris, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Ches-
ter Harris, were held from the fam-
ily home Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock. Many friends and relatives
attended. Services were in charge
of Rev. Charles Gilbert of Mt. Zion
Methodist Church and burial in Mt.
Zion Cemetery, Bearers were: Leon
VanPyle, Jack VanPyle, Paul Ry-
man, George Grinnal.
Mrs. Harris is the former Ruth
Billings of Carverton Road, Trucks-
ville.

Mrs. Harvey Kitchen was hostess
to members of the Women’s Society
of Christian Service of Alderson
Methodist Church at her home on
Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Russell
May of Shavertown gave a very in-
teresting talk on India, much of
which she demonstrated with jew-
elry and clothing brought from
there. Mrs. David Morgan was in
charge of the meeting and Mrs.
Raymond Garinger of devotions.
Officers of the organization gave re-
ports. ;
Miss Ruth Owens of the Elm Park
Church in Scranton will be the
guest speaker at the next meeting,

Minstrel Rehearsals
Started At Alderson
About 25 members of Alderson
Methodist Church are practicing for
a good old fashioned black-faced
minstrel show to be given the end
of this month. Raymond Garinger
is directing the jamboree with the
help of Herman Kern. Interlocutor
will be Otis Allen, Jr., and end men
Larry Yeager, Herby Davis, Jack
Lynk and Charles Kern. Specialty
numbers are promised by Jimmie
Williams, Scotch comedian, Herman
Kern and Mrs. Conrad Yeager, Af-
fair will be for the benefit of the
W. 8S. C. S. of the church.
Calendar Of Easter
Services At St. Paul's
Easter will be appropriately ush-
ered in at St. Paul's Lutheran
Church of which the Rev. Herbert
E, Frankfort is pastor, with an Eas-
ter sunrise service at 6 a. m. A
pageant, “When Easter Dawned”,
will be presented by the young peo-
ple of the church. The Passion
Service will be used and Easter
hymns will be sung. Easter Fes-
tival service will be held at 11
o'clock when the Rev. Herbert E.
Frankfort will preach on “I Am The
Life”. There will be special music
at both services. At the evening
service at 6:30 students of the
Sunday School will present their
program.
Young People To Give
“Waiting At The Church”
“Waiting at the Church”, a lively
farce, will be presented by the
young people of Huntsville Christian
Church in the church this evening at
8 o'clock. Miss Alma Major is di-
rector. Members of the cast are:
Margaret Jones, Ruth Culp, Ruth
Nitz, Ellen Piatt, Phyllis Elston,
Robert Price, Royal Culp, Dale War-
mouth and Alfred Davis.

Baptismal Service Sunday
There will be baptism of infants
and adults and reception of new
members at Ruggles, Alderson, Nox-
en and Kunkle Methodist churches
on Sunday, A special musical num-
ber will be a solo, “The Palms”, by
Billy Morgan.
