Feminine Keglers Get
Ott To Lively Start
With the league championship in
mind and the beautiful trophy as a
reward the West Side Girls’ Sum-
mer Bowling League started off last
Friday night with the Swoyerville
Pinkies knocking off the fast Fair-
sex Quins for four points.
Nellie Pinkoski led the Pinkies
with 446 pins while Mary Charnet-
sky paced the Fairsex Quins with
453 pins. Both teams are veterans
at the bowling game, having bowled
during the winter season at Luzerne
and Swoyerville alleys.
The Luzerne Croatian Daisies won
two games and total pins from the
Pringle Croatian Belles to take three
points. Gertrude Mascey led the
Daisies in high scoring while Kath-
erine Murat paced the Pringle Belles.
Notes On The Games
Coach Psolka had his hands full
demonstrating the proper methods
of bowling to the newcomers. But
being an old hand at handling wo-
men, Johnny got along fine.
Mary Charnetsky starred for the
evening with her 453 score for the
Fairsex Quins. Mary was on the
Mullay Shoe Repair team during
the winter.
From Swoyerville way came Nellie
Pinkoski to run up a 446 score to
put the Swoyerville Pinkies on top
of the league. Nellie used the Swoy-
erville alleys during last winter.
Helen Cajka, who hails from the
famous Cajka baseball family in
Swoyerville, was third high scorer
in the league and second on the
Pinkies.
Helen Salansky attracted much
attention by her fine control of a
slow hook ball on a fast alley. Helen
will find that spot on each alley
and then watch the fireworks. She
is a member of the Fairsex Quins.

Six Teams In Summer
Loop At St. John's
The second annual summer bowl-
ing season at the St. John’s alleys,
in Luzerne opened on Sunday night. |
All teams had their full quota of
bowlers and many of the hopefuls
who have registered were somewhat
disappointed in not being able to
connect with some of the teams. To
accommodate these boys it is plan-
ned to have all teams use six men
and starting next Monday night the
various teams will be assigned one
extra man.
In the opening games, Wilkes-
Barre Cigarette Sales team was op-
posed by the Mahaffey Oil Co. with
the Mahaffey boys taking two games
and total pins for three points. Bud-
dies’ Men’s Shop opened with a two-
game victory over Joe Schwab's
Wild Cats for three points. Luzerne
Anthracite Office. made a clean
sweep with a four point win over
the St. John’s Recreation team.
Six teams were scheduled to play
Wednesday night and their results
were not ready in time for this
issue. Schedules were: Strish’s
Morticians vs. Dwyer Bros; Harch-
ar’'s Hucksters vs. Rahl’'s Market;
Wally and Jimmy's Smoke Shop
vs. Spinicci Garage.

team’s games. She proved willing to
learn the fine points of the game as
played by yours truly. Maybe she
won't be as good, but you never
can tell.
And our old friend from over
Buckingham way, Gertrude Mascey,
showed some stuff on the ball. Lu-

Barbara Gushanas showed prom-
ise of getting some good games in

The 100-miler, first to be held on
the world’s fastest mile speedway
in a half-decade, will be the feature
event of a combination sprint and
endurance card which is expected
to draw many of the past Lang-
horne winners, most recent of whom
is Ted Horn, winner of the May 12
meet and fourth money man at
Indianapolis.
Another Hoosier place man is
Mauri Rose, third position. Rose is
also a past Langhorne winner, hav-
ing chalked up one of the most sen-
sational victories in the colorful
history of the Bucks County bowl,
a blanket finish which found Rose
edging out Ben Shaw and Billy
Winn.
Although Horn garnered the big
money at the last Langhorne meet,
he had to put up a stiff argument
against the advances of two other
early entries for the coming 100-
mile classic, Everett Saylor and
Joie Chitwood, in addition to Tony
Willman, who set the pace until his
car balked.
Although the main event is but
twice as long as the former Lang-
horne 50-mile features, fatigue and
strain on men and machines triple
the danger of the grueling test of
the nation’s fastest cars and fore-
most drivers in the final and most
colorful of the east’s long distance
races.
Boccette Team Formed
Nick Puri of the Miners Cafe in
Luzerne is getting a team groomed
up for a boccette game soon to be
played in Swoyerville. Mike Fer-
rarro, who is an expert at the game,
will match his go-getters against the
Miners.< Sue Leandri, the midget,
thinks the Italian boys, from Lu-
zerne, can take over any opposition
in the Italian National game. Well,
Bruno Spinicci thinks the same, so
how about a match game?
Harry E. Wins At Last
The Harry E. Baseball team fin-
ally won a game and the Cajka
Bros. are getting a little more en-
thusiastic over their prospects for
the season.
