To Make Its Bow
Morgan's Quintet Will
Meet First Test
Basketball fans will have an
opportunity to see the Luzerne
team in action on its home
floor tonight (Friday) against
Old Forge High in a game that
should show what the Luzerne
five has in the way of basket-
ball ability.
According to Coach Dake Morgan
the local boys are small but will
make that difference up in speed
and accuracy. This writer watched
the team in action during the week
against former Luzerne stars and
this year’s squad really showed
class, both in passing and shooting.
In former years local squads were
built around one individual, but
since Morgan took over he has been
training two boys instead of one
around whom to build his team.
His reasons for this: “In former
years local teams were built around
one man who was generally a very
good shot, but during the course of
the season if he happened to be in-
jured there was no one to take his
place. But our new system of build-
ing our team around two men in-
stead of one will always give us
one player on whom we can de-
pend.”
Crossin, the smallest man on this
year’s squad, is about the fastest
man to play on a local team in some
time and the fans will get plenty
of thrills watching this youngster
perform.
Luzerne is known for its basket-
ball teams and this year will be no
exception. All that is necessary
now is that the fans support this
year’s team. ;
On January 1 the team will play
the Alumni at the high school. Af-
ter the game a dance will be held.
This is a yearly affair held by the
Senior class.
Mullay Girls
Defeat Central
Miss Honeywell And
Psolka Lead Scoring
The Mullay Shoe Repair girls’
team thoroughly shellaced the
second place Central Cafe team by
taking two games and total pins
for three points. John Psolka and
Miss Honeywell led the scoring for
the girls, while Polly Evans was the
only Central bowler who did any
hitting.
Buddies’ Juniors, after being hurl-
ed out of first place, having started
Spinicci's Team
Breaks Record
New Single Game High
Of 1048 Tops Old Mark
The Spinicci Garagemen broke all
records last week in the West Side
Merchant's Bowling league. A new
single game high of 1048 pins was
recorded, beating the former re-
cord of 1019 held by Sterling’s. The
three game high was also smashed
when the Garagemen hit 3054, beat-
ing Sterling’s 3015 score.
The Spinicci team took all three
games from Tedo Merli’'s Bileggi
Cafe team. Joe Simmons scored
high man for the Bileggi’'s was
Psolka, with 561 pins.
Lipo Insurance had tough op-
position from the Larksville Orioles.
Dorish led the insurance men with
594, while Corsti was high for the
Orioles, with 530 pins.
Ben Sterling’s team defeated the
St. John’s team all three games.
Timmy Shumko led the Sterling’s
with 590, while Walko took high for
the St. John’s, with 494.
Buddies’ Men’s Shop with an en-
tirely new lineup, took three games
from the Luzerne Anthracite team.
Joe Banks, captain of the Buddies’,
led his men with a 624 score, while
Frank Rinks hit 569 for the Anthra-
cite team.
Ziggy Karlotski led the Grablick
Dairy team to a three point victory
over Blight Bros. Ziggy hit 577 pins
for Blight’'s and Charlie Kazokas,
former Grablick’s bowler led the
Blight Bros. with a 598 score.
Individual single-game, Baker,

their climb to regain their lead.
George Moses continues to be the
ace for Buddies. Buddies took four
points from Al's Barbers. Al Regal
has been greatly handicapped by
shortage of bowlers.
Mike Ferraro dropped in with his
Truckers and set the Quarteroni
Bros. on their ears in the first game,
leading by forty pins. The Truckers
lost the other two games. Tony
Caladie, hitting them hard in the
Juniors, has climbed high up in the
Big Ten. Stelma and Gaiteri led for
the Truckers.
The General Cigar Boys resumed
where they left off last week by
taking the first two games from
the Kelly Street Market. The Kelly
Street team took the third game by
enough pins to take the extra point.
Kader led the cigarmakers with a
528 score, while Stefanye Krupa
was high man for the Kelly Street-
ers.

Bowling Notes
You can’t keep a good girl down,
only in this case it was a team of
girls, namely, the Mullay Shoe Re-
pair bowling team. Last week these
girls defeated the Ferraro Truckers
for three points. This week they
repeated against the Central Cafe.
Miss Honeywell is attracting much
attention every Friday night by
her stellar bowling.
Purvis blushed with embarrass-
ment when the girls took that first
game. After they took the second
game, Purvis was given smelling
salts. He fainted .
Captain Yantaca and Andy
Charnitsky took it upon themselves
to stop those General Cigar boys
after losing the first two games.
Yantacka, with his 213 game, and
Charnitsky, with 196, was too much
for the Cigar boys to overcome.
Adams of the cigar team has a
loud husky voice that is heard all
over the building. On inquiring as
to his ability to sheut so loud, we
found out he isl champion hog caller
from his neck of the woods. He
carries a medal, too.
Mike Ferraro was on hand to de-
termine what is wrong with his
team after that beating they re-
ceived from the girls. They got
another lacing from the Quarteroni
gang. Mike says he will cut off
the boys’ ration of rum on bowling
nights.

Al Regal is one hard luck sponsor.
His team can’t get together all at
one time and as a consequence Al
loses his games. It would be a good
act on the part of the teams carry-
ing surplus bowlers to give Al a
few of the bowlers.
George Kovacs had a good idea
in mind in the Christmas donation
he suggested, but it was taboo on
account of the higher ups in the
bowling game.
The new team for Buddies’ Men’s
Shop promises some action in the
Mechant’s leagud. Banks Brown,
Nemetko, Kurpis, Govier, Van Horn
and Mizenko will give the rest of
the league something to worry
about.
All games scheduled in the Bus-
iness Men’s League for Xmas and
New Year's will be played at a
later date. The alleys will be closed
all day Xmas day.
The first half score sheets of the
Brunswick Sweepstakes have been
mailed and from now until the week
of January 14 the bowlers must im-
prove their averages. The finals will
run for seven weeks starting Jan-
uary 14.
Smiling Bill Michaelson is great-
ly concerned about his team in the
Business Men’s League. The Bon
Ton team is holding its own and
right now holds third place. With
the type of bowling these are pro-
ducing, Bill doesn’t have to worry
about no copping the flag.

much for the Greenwald’s who had

points. Baker, with a 644 score, led
the Bon Ton crew, while Phil
Richards went home happy over his

Brown led Smith’s team with his
643 score.
Buddies bowled average when the
Brokenshire team failed to appear.
Zoeller of the Luzerne Anthracite
