Grid Champions

McCracken Is Speaker
For the third time this season,
Kingston Township’s much-feted
championship football team, and its
coach, Walter Hicks, were honored
at a dinner in the Shavertown fire
house on Monday night. The team
members were guests at a dinner
given by Ed Hall several weeks ago.
L. T. “Red” Schwartz, chairman
of the committee from Shavertown
Fire Company which sponsored
Monday night's affair, welcomed the
guests and introduced Tom E. Hef-
fernan, Jr., sports editor of The
Sunday Independent and who was
a witty and gracious toastmaster.
Joe McCracken, coach of Kingston
High School's Wyoming Valley
champions, was the principal speak-
er. He drew from his experience
as a coach at Berwick, G. A. R.
and Kingston an interesting talk on
football.
Morgan Rowlands, Jr. sang solos
and the football squad, directed by
Miss Dorothy Weaver, sang. Coach
Hicks thanked the men who had
given the dinner and his squad
members. The Ladies’ Auxiliary of
the fire company, served the turkey
dinner.

White Church On Hill
Rev. Harry Savacool, pastor of
the White Church on the Hill, has
announced the following schedule of
Sunday services: 9:30 a. m., church
school; 10:30, worship, conclusion
of Bible Week; sermon subject, “Ex-
ploration and Discovery in Bible
Study Hours”; 6:45 Epworth
League; 7:30, evening worship; I. O.
0. F., will attend; sermon, ‘Divided
They Cannot Stand!”
Services next week: Monday, 7:30,
meeting of finance committee at the
church; 8 monthly official board
meeting; Thursday, 7:15, church
study night; 5:30, fish and chips
supper served by W. F. C. and C. C.
Classes; tickets must be purchased
in advance.

“At St. Paul's Church
“When Will the End of the World
Come ?” will be the subject of Rev.
Herbert E. Frankfort’s sermon at
the 11 a. m. service at St. Pauls
Lutheran Church, Shavertown, on
Sunday. Sunday School will be at
9:45 and Luther League devotions
at 6:45. “Discouraged ? What
Then?” will be Rev. Mr. Frank
fort's sermon topic in the evening
at 7:30.

has returned to work following his
illness.

Frank Johnson of Huntsville is
greatly improved after his recent
illness.
William Dymond, Jr., of Main
Street is a patient in Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital, suffering from a
broken arm.
George Bulford, who has been ill,
is feeling better.
Joseph Schuler of Pioneer Avenue
is drilling a well on his property.
Rev. and Mrs. Ira Button of Sweet
Valley and Mrs. Louise Lyne visited
friends in Beaumont on Tuesday.
Art Crafters of Wilkes-Barre are
taking pictures of pupils in township
schools.
Kingston Township will play its
first home basketball game on De-
cember 19 against Swoyerville High
School.
Mrs. A. K. Lindsley of Carverton
Road is ill at her home.
Mrs. Goldie Jones of Kingston,
formerly of this place, visited friends
here on Wednesday.

Parents Married 50 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dymond,
Berwick, parents of Mrs. Stanley
Keller of Sweet Valley, celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary on
November 27. Mrs. Dymond was 71
years old in October and Mr. Dy-
mond was 69 years old in Septem-
ber. Both enjoy good health.

The W. C. T. U. held a well-at-
tended meeting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Clark Edwards on Tues-

ren are visiting Mrs. Stewart’s par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Button.
McKinley Long is ill.
Clayton Thomas shot a good-
sized deer on Monday. Francis Hust-
ed also bagged a buck.
