BOWLING With great satisfaction we note that all is well along the bowling front. Bernie was on hand rooting for his team last Friday and the genial Purvis was most gracious to all present. The sad note crept in the evening's festivities when the Buddies’ team took two points from Central Cafe. The Juniors are doing the league proud. Nearly all teams now have bowling shirts. Bowling shoes are also a great asset to better bowl- ing and the boys will fall in line with that necessary equipment. Miss Honeywell continued her hitting streak and her average ad- vanced to 161. The girls are getting into their stride and the boys are getting frightened. Stanley Baker took it on his shoulders to try to win the series for the Buddies last week. Baker hit a new record for high game with 257 pins and a new three-game high of 684 pins. Joe Banks was an interested co-bowler. Steve Krupa was back in the bush league with the Kelly St. team. Steve says there is more fun bowling in the juniors, where no- body gets sore at a low score. Johnny Yantacka take notice! Rahl’s Market disposgd of that first place threat by taking three points from Pete Smith, their near- est rival for lead honors. Rahl’s will do if all their bowlers are present on the same night will prove interesting as all members of that team are high class bowlers and no one will like to take the bench. What price glory. Well, they asked for it. White of Friedman's team has moved out of town. Charlie Fried- man has acquired one Walt Lukasic to replace White. Walt needs no introduction and will prove a real threat to opposing teams. We got luck. Andy Zupa of Bileggi Cafe is mak- ing a bid for the big ten in Mer- chants’ and all concerned watch Andy’s smoke for he is one sore guy and is out to get revenge the bowl- BLOCH’S B 121 S. MEETS KINGSTON TWP. SATURDAY First Tilt In Mythical Conference Will Be Played At Trucksville Field The first game in the three-cornered mythical Back Mountain foot- ball conference will be played on Saturday afternoon when Kingston Township, last year’s champs, clash with Dallas Township on the Trucks- ville football field. Coach Thorwald Lewis’ team had a disastrous start this year but after taking it on the noggin sev- eral times the Dallas Township eleven pulled itself up by its boot- straps and toppled several tough opponents. The township team now has three defeats and three victor- ies on its record. Last week Dallas Township de- feated Factoryville, 14 to 0, on the local field. Hicks’ Team Won In 1938 At Kingston Township Coach Walter Hicks’ squad, which looked promising early in the season, has been dogged by the injury jinx. Kingston Township’s biggest ac- complishment yet this season was its victory over a highly-touted Ashley team. Then minor injuries began to take their toll and Hicks’ team dropped a game to Wyoming GURNARI BOYS SHINE AS PANTHERS DEFEAT EXETER PRO ELEVEN The Wilkes-Barre Panthers won their second straight vic- tory on Sunday at Artillery Park by defeating the Exeter pro eleven before a crowd of 500 fans by the score of 28 to 0. Vic and Buddy Gurnari, both former Luzerne High stars, were the outstanding players for the Panthers. The Pan- thers expect to play at home again this Sunday but so far have not picked their oppon- ents. Shickshinny. Both Dallas Township and King- ston Township are in the Luzerne County Conference so tomorrow's tilt will have a decided effect on their standing. At present King- ston Township is tied for seventh place among the 14 teams and Dal- las Township is one of six teams tied for the cellar position. Last year Kingston Township de- feated Dallas Township, 20 to 7. Lehman, which had no game last Staturday, played Luzerne reserves last night, too late to be covered for this week’s Post. ing high scores way. That-a-boy, Andy! The bowlers of the Business Men's league appreciate the attitude of the Brokenshire team this season. All is quiet on the bowling lines this winter. Elmer, the pin boy, was in a bad shape last Friday. Elmer bowls with the Quarteroni team and also sets up pins. Last week was his night to work. Joe Schwab is happy his team lost last week. Schab’s team re- mained undefeated all season until stopped by the Spinicci Garage. Joe will learn that the Luzerne bowlers are quite different from the other leagues, but not so bad as our neighboring leagues of Swoyerville. They throw you out up there. “Steve Kovacs is being handi- capped with the schedule in the Business Men's league. Too bad we can’t iron out your difficulty, Steve, but rules are rules. An important meeting of the Merchants’ league next Tuesday. Prize list and modification of rules will be in order. All teams will have a representative present. | Himmler Theatre MATINEE EVERY SATURDAY AT 2 DALLAS, PA. STEGMAIER BREWING CO. % 2 Wilkes-Barre, Pa. > Luzerne Lions, Undefeated Yet, Face Larksville Yarashas, Star Back, Expected To Play In Crucial Game Tonight Luzerne High - School remained among the undefeated teams in the valley by defeating Hanover under the arc-lights at Connolly field last Friday nigth. The West Siders may not have a great team but they are doing everything in their power to re- main undefeated. Not since the first game has Luzerne had its full backfield strength and in some games as high as three substitutes have started the game. On Friday night it was Roe- cograndi and Hutsko who carried and punted the Lions to a 7 to 0 victory. To-morrow afternoon the Lions will tackle what is expected to be the toughest game on their schedule when they met Larksville High School at Larksville. The Larks have lost but one game so far this season, to Kingston, 7-0, and are still rated one of the best teams in the valley. On the other hand the Lions are a fighting bunch and refuse to admit defeat until the last whistle is blown. Pete Yarashas, star back- field ace, will be in condition to play and he is one man that the Larks will have to watch in order to win.
