Highway Department Turns
Center Street Over
To WPA
The latest attempt to complete the
improvements started to East Center
Street, Shavertown, by WPA three-
years ago betered out this week as
the State Highway Department, claim-
ing a shortage of funds, hauled away
its machinery and passed the buck
back to WPA.
As a result of a vigorous protest
from angry property owners last Au-
gust, the Highway Department took
over the project and completed West
Center ‘Street, East Center Street is
still uncompleted and motorists must
drive over the rough, rock fill. There
are no sidewalks on the street so pe-
destrians must walk on the half-fin-
ished highway.
“We're thoroughly disgusted with
the Highway Department and with
WPA,” one property owner who must
use the street told The Post this week.
He intimated that some legal action
will be taken unless arrangements are
made to complete the long-drawn-out
project.
