Harry and his able assistants are willing to take on almost any hope- less case, and retemper, rebuild, and generally redeem it, until it is up to its original height, and guaranteed to signed for. Located at 247 N. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, the spring ser- vice was established 16 years ago. But Harry and two of his men, John Boy- er and John John’s, had gathered ex- perience for many years before with other organizations. To “ date, the three men have each spent more than 30 years at the trade. At present, the plant is equipped to give immediate service on springs on Smith Started At Top Progressed To Bottom Meet Charlie Smith, who runs one of the biggest and best-known auto- mobile top services in Wyoming Val- ley. Mr. Smith is the proprietor of the Standard Top Works at 300 Market | : Street, Kingston, and has been in bus- iness at that address for more than thirty years. Not contented with sitting back and being satisfied with the profits of his auto top department, Mr. Smith added body and fender repairing to his list of services some years ago. Hemstreet himself is carrying out family tradition, for spring making has been the family craft for generations. In addition to Harry, many other pres- ent members of the family are engaged Al- though spring comes but once a year for ordinary motorists, spring comes all year 'round for those motorists who plate glass department. How far this expansion move is likely to go, he is not sure. He has not fixed any definite limits, and will con- tinue to grow, until he feels that the needs of his customers are being ade- quately handled. Born on the West Side, he has lived and done business there all his life. And it appears he is one of the West Side’s favorite sons, for his brand of work is just as popular as he is. wm LOUIS 855 EPSTINE Clothier, Hatter, Furnisher 70 E. MARKET ST. JUST ARRIVED . . . Latest development in the field is “window conditioning” which architects and engineers claim is the most vital insulation of them all. In- stalling double sash or storm-windows is reported to effect a greater dollars and cents saving to the homeowner than any other type of insulation. Tests conducted by Prof. G. L. Larson, of the University of Wisconsin, show that in the average home which is not “window conditioned” one out of ev- ery four shovels of coal! goes out the window instead of in the furnace. The ble glazing or “window conditioning” is repaid within two years through furnace fuel savings. — | HEADLINES IN NEW YORK— | America’s 1938 wool clip placed at 368,- 528,000 pounds, 2,000,000 above 1937 . . . The U. S. Department of Commerce here, follow- ing the same procedure, has just is- sued its mid-year report on consum- ers’ goods inventories. The report says that stocks on hand have returned to normal. The large quantity of mer- chandise which the latter part of 1936 and early 1937, says the report, has been gradually liquidated. Pointing out that retail sales during the first six months of this year were about 15 per cent under those for the same period of 1937, and about five per cent below 1936, the re- port concludes that this trend seems to have run its course, and that a con- tinued improvement in sales is in pros- pect, —p THINGS TO WATCH FOR—A “draftless fan” which stands on the floor and draws in cool air at approx- imately floor level, shooting it up to- ward the ceiling in a perpendicular column can be found on display the latest models of DeSoto and Plymouth automobiles and dependable used cars.
