FREELAND, PA., MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1000. TWO SUSPECTS CAPTURED Freeland Police Arrest Al leged Burglars. Men Who Robbed a Man at New Philadelphia of $62 Caught in Freeland on Saturday Afternoon. Mike Kisola and Mike Leveshe are the names of two men who left town this afternoon for Pottsville In charge of Constable Molik. The prisoners are accused of robbing a man at New Philadelphia of SO2. They were arrested on Saturday afternoon on board an incoming trolley car by Officer Molik and Chief of Police Filler. The Freeland police were notified at 10 o'clock on Saturday morning to watch for them, and when the robbers reached town they were promptly ar rested. At the lockup they wero searched. On Kisola 8 cents were found, and Leveshe had $3.00 in his pockets. It is believed, however, that the balance of the stolen money is concealed about their person. The prisoners will be given a hearing this evening at Pottsville. Child Fatally Burned. As the result of the exploding of a coal oil lamp, Mamie Milan, 14 years old, is dead at East Mauch Chunk, and the girl's mother Is so badly Injured and burned that her death is momentarily expected. The women of the house were sewing and Mrs. Milan knocked the lamp over. She asked her daughter to grasp the lamp, and as tho child did her mother's bidding it oxploded, com pletely covering and saturating bor clothes with the oil, which instantly took fire. In her fright and terrible agony the girl ran Into tho yard, where her mother, who followed, caught her and clasped her in her arms. At this moment the flames of the girl's clothing shot up as high as the second-story window of the house. The body of the daughter was almost, burned to a crisp and the mother was so severely Injured by the (lames that she cannot recover. Costly Railroad Wreck. Engine (>.">(), of the Lehigh Valley Kail road, drawing a train of seventeen load ed gondolas on the Hazleton branch, ran away late Saturday night. The locomotivo was in charge of Albert Reese, who, with his fireman, jumped when they realized that tho train was beyond control. At Ponn Haven Junction tho runaway collided with a shifter, throwing it across the track and demolishing it. The runaway engine left the track, striking a locomotive of tho D. S. S. Railroad, west hound, with a train of empties, demolishing it and derailing most of the cars. The loss Is estimated at $30,000. Rights of Teachers. Miss Maggie Paul, a school teacher at Spring Mill, was acquitted in court at Norrlstown of beating Leo Strauss, aged 8 years. He drew an offensive picture on his slate and Miss Paul, it is said, whipped him with a ruler. In ad dressing the jury, Miss Paul's counsel said that the teachers are not only em ployed to Impart knowledge, but to earn for the moral welfare of the pupils and they are warranted in administering punishment which will have a lasting influence. Mrs. James Brennan, of Coxe addi tion, was buried this afternoon in St. Patrick's cemetery, White Haven. The remains left Freeland on the Lehigh Valley 12.14 o'clock train, accompanied by many friends of the family. At 9.30 o'clock a requiem mass was celebrated at St. Ann's church by Rev. Francis Mack. Mrs. Brennan died at an early hour Saturday morning after a long illness. She was aged 59 years, and is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Edward and Thomas, Freeland; .James, Long Island, N. Y.; Mrs. John Kelly, White Ilaven, and Misses Mame and Katie, Freeland. The remains of the late Anthony Lowe were interred this afternoon in Freeland cemetery. The respect and esteem in which the deceased was held by his large circle of acquaintances was attested by the number of local and out of-town friends who were present at the funeral. Services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Hall. The funeral of the late William H. Bainbridge was attended yesterday by Loyal Castle, Knights of the Mystic Chain, and many friends of the de ceased. The services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Ilartman and Rev. W. C. Hall in the Park M. E. church. The remains were interred in Freeland cemetery. Killed at Oakdale. A fatal accident occurred at No. 4 breaker, Oakdale, Saturday morning. A lump of slate rolled down a schute and struck John Steelack, a car loader. The shock knocked him from his posi tion to the locie track below just as the engine came rushing toward him. Be fore the unfortunate man could get out of its way the locie wheels were on him and ground out his lifo. The deceased was a Slavonian and resided in Swamp town. Summoned as a Witness. Constable John Molik, who with High Constable John 11. Shovlin and Joseph Renowski, of Freeland, arrested the three men last week on suspicion of having committed a burglary in Lehigh county, has been summoned to appear at 2 o'clock tomorrow before Alderman George Fry, of Allentown, when tho accused men will be given a hearing. The prosecutor is O. E. Urover, of Coin on ton. Air-IVlotor Wrecked. George Malinky's air-motor, corner of Main and Fern streets, wus wrecked Friday afternoon by falling to the ground. Some of the machinery was out of order, and while workmen were preparing to repair the dofoctlve parts the whole structure tumbled down. No one was Injured. Mr. Mai inky has placed an order for another motor. Another Thumb Off. John Knyrim, of Eckley, while hunt ing rabbits on Saturday, met with an accident. The triggerof his gun caught in some bushes and the load was dis charged and entered one of his thumbs. Mr. Knyrim went immediately to the Miners' hospital, whoro the shattered member was amputated. Ernest Knerium, employed as a brake man on the Reading Railway, was run over by a shifting engine in the yard at Tamaqua Saturday night, and so badly mangled about the limbs and body that he died three hours later. He was 40 years old and leaves a wife and four children. Creditors of Peter P. Smith, one of the judges of the superior court. living at Scranton, have filed a petition in bankruptcy against him in the United States district court, alleging that ho is insolvent. Peter Schnee, who was removed to the Miners' hospital Friday afternoon from his homo in the Second ward, had his injured leg amputated at that institu tion on Saturday.
