    for Infants and Children.
Mothers, DO YOU Know p.™*™*.
Bate man's Drops, Godfrey's Cordial, many so-called Sootliing Syrups, and
most remedies for children lire composed of opium or morphine?
Do Yon Know that opium and morphine are stupefying narcotic poisons ?
Do You Know that in most countries druggists ore not permitted to sell narcotics
without labeling them poisons ?
Do You Know thut you should not permit any medicine to be given your ciiild
unless you or your physician know of what it is composed ?
Do Yon Know that Castoria is a purely vegetable preparation, and that a list of
its ingredients is published with every bottle ?
Do Yon Know that Castoria is the prescription of the famous I)r. Samuel Pitcher.
Tliat it has been in use for nearly thirty years, and that more Castoria is now sold than
of all other remedies for children combined ?
Do Yon Know that the Patent Office Department of the United States, and of
other countries, have issued exclusive right to Dr. Pitcher aud his assigns to use the word
" Castoria" and its formula, and that to imitate them is a state prison offense 1
Do Yon Know that one of the reasons for granting this government protection was
because Castoria had been proven to be absolutely harmless?
Do Yon Know that 35 average doses of Castoria are furnished for 35
cents, or one cent a dose ?
Do You Know that when possessed of this perfect preparation, your children may
be kept well, and that you may have unbroken rest ?
Well, these things are worth knowing. They are facts.
The f'ae-simile // is on every
signature of wrapper.

AFTER THE FIRE.
; The Tribune, after missing two issues,
I appears today under difficulties which
i the editor expects to soon overcome.
! Through the courtesy of the publishers
of the Freeland Progress, Slavonian
Truth and Hazleton Standard we are
enabled today to make an appearance,
and if the paper is not quite up to its
previous standard we hope our readers
and pj.trons will bear with us for a short
while until we get our material in shape
again. In a few weeks, at the most,
the paper will look like itself once more.
The editor desires to express his sin
cere thanks to the newspaper fraternity
of Luzerne county for the prompt offers
of the use of several offices, also fcr the
many kind expressions of sympathy
tendered by the public in general. For
tunately it was not necessary for us tc
call upuu many offices for the use ol
material, nevertheless we appreciate
the spirit that pr ujpleo nearly a dozen
publishers to • 11. r their aid, and we
promise that their th tgh fulness will
not be forgotten by the Tribune.
To the members of the Citizens' Hose
Company and those who worked at the
tire the publisher is indebted for all
that remains. Their woi k could not be
surpassed, and they nevr fought theii
fiery enemy more bravely or netter.
Freeland has, without exception, one o!
the best volunteer lire departments in
the state. The kindness of the neigh
bors to the editor's lamily in tendering
assistance is . 1 o acknowledged.

TUB first women employed in the
, national treasury were paid 8000 per
j annum, or just half as much as the
men, but as they proved their effi
ciency their salaries were proportion
ately increased, until now we learn
from the statistics shown by the civil
service commission that there are now
seven women receiving' SI,BOO, about
fifty receiving SI,OOO, 225 $1,400, over
000 receiving $1,200, 450 SI,OOO and
over but less than $1,200, while there
are 700 receiving SOOO. And it is the
voice of the commissioners that women
in the public service have on the whole
had a beneficial effect upon that serv
ice and measurably increased its effi
ciency; that no one familiar with
conditions that prevailed in the de
partments twenty-five years ago and
equally familiar with the conditions
prevailing to-day can doubt the cor
rectness of this opinion.
UNSUCCESSFUL seekers for literary

Itlie trunks of to-day, says the New

old hair trunks lined with curious, and,
perhaps, valuable publications of the
