FACTORY EMPLOYMENT DROPS
During January the number of workers employed in Pennsylvania
factories fell 1 per cent. This followed two months of recovery from
the steel strike. Biggest employment gains of any area in Penneyl-
vania were chalked up by Altoons, where activity in railroad
repair shops boosted the total number of workers by 35 per cent.
Johnstown, on the other hand, showed the effects bf the coal strike
by a 6 per cent drop in factory employment. Other oytstanding
changes were in the Pottsville area with a 8 per cent decline, and
the York-Adams area with a § per cent gain. ]
