The Saints took an early lead in the first period when a 30-yard pass from Minor to Slanoc hit pay-dirt. Another pass play from Minor to Mutsko gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. The visitors again threatened to score in the first frame when they advanced to the Patton one- yard stripe. But the Independent |LT line dug in and held the Saints on downs. In the second quarter St. Mich- ael again tried to cross, and they advanced to the Patton two. But again the strong Patton line held the Saints on downs. In the third period Patton left loose as Ceschini passed to Zean- chock advancing the ball to the visitors’ 24-yard line. Zeanchock went off-tackle to the 12. Ceschini made a first down on the next play and Zeanchock plunged again to the visitors two-yard line. Ceschini skirted right end to territory. this Patton Athletic Field. Mountaineers Drive to 7-0 Win Over Cherry Tree High To Clash With Hastings This Friday Evening The Mountaineers of Carroll- town High School scored a 7-0 victory over Cherry Tree last Friday evening under the lights of the Carrolltown High School Stadium. Fullback Volk of Carrolltown, intercepted a Cherry Tree pass on the Cherry Tree 25 in the sec- ond frame to set the stage for the only TD of the game. After three first downs the ball rested on the Cherry Tree two yard stripe where Quarterback Tom Malloy plunged over to pay-dirt. “Red” Buck added the extra point with a placement kick. Coach Mario (Huck) Cicero's Mountaineers drove to the visitors 20-yard line three times in the second half but were stalled on downs. The Little Giants of Cher- ry Tree made their only TD bid in the final chapter when they intercepted a pass and drove 44 yards to the Carrolltown one-yard | ™ line, where a strong Mountaineer line not only held but pushed the visitors for a five yard loss and then took over on downs. Carrolltown High netted for 150 yards by rushing and passing against Cherry Tree’s 70. The winners completed one of five pass attempts while the visitors hit on two of five tries. Carroll- town held a commanding edge in first downs, 10-3. Carrolltown will be host to Hastings High School this Friday evening at 8 p. m. in Carrolltown. Patton High Panthers Drop 32-0 Decision At Barnesboro Wargo Crosses Goal Line 4 Times for Dragons; Patton to Visit South Fork Saturday Afternoon Patton High School lost their second straight game last Friday evening, to Barnesboro, 32-0, in a game played in Barnesboro. The Dragons of Barnesboro scored in each of the first three periods and were threatened twice by the Panthers. Early in the contest Halfback Loweg of Patton took a short pass and raced 62 yards before being knocked out of bounds only two yards from the goal line. Four plays later the tock the ball on downs on the 16. Then, on the last play of the con- test, a long pass from Jenkins to Lowes was good for 57 yards be- fore the ball-carrier was thrown out of bounds on the four-yard line. - Barnesboro was sparked by the pass combination of Vella to G. Wargo to account for two of the TD's. Wargo also scored two oth- er touchdowns. A poor punt which carried only 10 yards to the Patton 15 set up the first Dragon scoring stage. Wargo returned the kick 10 yards and on the next play War- go sprinted around end to score. His placement was good. A few minutes later Barnesboro scored again when Vella heaved a 15- yard pass which Wargo carried another 15 yards to paydirt. { Dragons | i nesboro completed 7 of 13 pass The home team scored another pair in the second frame. Wargo first tallied on a 30-yard dash through center and a short time later caught another Vella pass and scooted into the end zone. | Barnesboro’s final counter came in the third frame. Vella heaved a short pass to Zrioka, who lat- eraled to Hineman and the latter galloped 35 yards. The Dragons held the edge in first downs, 11-3 and gained 274 net yards to Patton’s 121. Umpire—Rich Linesman—Mc Hastings Breezes Past Heilwood In 40-0 Night Game Last Thursday Hastings High School scored in every chapter to breeze past Pine Township High of Heilwood, 40-0 last Thursday, evening on the Hastings gridiron. The home team, rolling up a commanding 17-3 margin in first downs, scored once in each of the first two periods and then speed- ed its tempo to register four more second-half touchdowns. Hastings gave an inkling of what was to come when it took the opening kickoff on a 60-yard march to a six-pointer. The win- ners piled up 250 net yards by rushing while the visitors could net only 16. It was Hastings’ first win of the season following a 6-6 tie with Lilly. The summary. Albright Pigeon Paces Ohio Flight The Central Pennsylvania Com- bine’s 300 mile race was flown from Xenia, Ohio last Sunday, Sept. 18 with 72 birds from nine lofts competing. Russ Albright's AV49CPC8 paced the field at 1486.20 yards per minute. A bird from the G. W. Mileski’s loft came in second at 1452.27 yards per minute and Francis Bearers “Buckshot” of the Carrolltown loft was third at 1451.97. Other flyers and their speeds were: McIntyre, 1423.77; E. The show will be seen for a 13-week period starting this Friday, Sept. 23. Every Saturday a staff of cam- eramen will film leading games from coast-to-coast.
