The basketball classic of the
year—the St. Francis College Var-
sity F Club's tournament—will
begin on Thursday, Mar. 17, ac-
cording to announcement made
this week. All games will be
played at Doyle Hall.
A schedule of games will be
announced later. This year's tour-
nament will be the 20th in the
series sponsored by the club.
The first one was held in 1927,
with Beaverdale winning the
championship at that time.
Last year Patton ran into the
top bracket in eliminations, only
to be defeated by Gallitzin.

Portage High squad in the title

Hipp was judged the most val-
uable player in the tournament
last year.
The title gave Westmont pos-
session of the Varsity F Trophy
for one year. Both Conemaugh
and Westmont have single vic-
tories on the third trophy of the
series. Three championships are
necessary for permanent posses-
sion of the trophy. Ferndale won
the first in 1938 and Franklin re-
tired the second one in 1946.
