PAGE EIGHT Nearly 200 Cases Are Disposed of in June Court Term Thirty-three persons were sen- tenced to institutions and 153 paid costs, fines, or both, during the June term of criminal court in Cambria County . it was the heaviest schedule for a June term in recent years. Clerk of Courts Joseph Wess said a total of 198 cases were dis- posed of A total of 144 persons pleaded guilty, 58 of them to failure to support a wife or_family. Thir- teen were convicted and 11 found not guilty after trial. Thirty ca- ses were dismissed by the court. In cases that went to trial, se- ven were acquitted by juries and | four were freed by the court. The other trials ended in convictions eight by juries. and five by the court. Of those "sentenced to serve time, one was sent to state pri- sou, 266 were committed to the county jail and six were to institutions for juvenile de- linquents. A number of those who were ordered to pay fines and ccsts were placed on probation, As indicated above, the non- support cases were most tre- quent. There were 63 of these. Theft of one kind or another, totaling 57, included on robbery case, 20 burglaries, 26 larcenies, nine embezzlement or fraud and one involving receipt of stolen goods. There were two homicide cases, both of which went to trial. Leon W. Andrews, a Detroit truck dri- ver was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter.
