Miss Gertrude Bender of Altoo-
na spent last week at the home
of Mrs. Syvilla Miller in East Car-
roll Township. Other callers at the
Miller home were Mrs. Adolph Mil-
ler, and Mrs, Peg Auckebaugh of
Altoona, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mill-
er of Nanty-Glo, and Mrs. Mallie
Miller of Nicktowh.
Marine Staff Sgt. Walter Bear-
er is sepnding a leave with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bear-
er, in town. Sgt. Bearer is now in
the completion of his second en-
listment in the marines, and has
been in service for more than sev-
en years, His most recent station
has been in Hawaii, and he will
return there upon expiration of his
leave. He intends to make the Mar-
ine Corps his life career.
Edwin J. Bender of Altoona was
a week end caller at the home of
his aunt, Mrs. Catherine Bender.
The Ladies’ Republican Club of
Carrolltown held a covered dish
party in conjunction with their
regular monthly meeting at the
George Bender camp on Monday
evening. A number of guests also
attended.
Misses Dotty Lemmert of Phila-
delphia, and Eris Edmiston of Ba-
kerton, were week end guests of
Miss Marilyn Fees. a
Mrs. Emma McClain of Phila-
delphia; Mrs. Britten of West Vir-
ginia, and Mrs. Bernard Deringer
of Hollidaysburg, were circulating
among local friends last Friday.
Mrs. Nan Hannah and daughter,
Mildred, of Seabright, N. J. and
Mr. John Hocter of New York
City, visited with Miss Leora Stich
last week. The visitors were en-
route home from the West Coast
where they had been for six weeks.
Mrs. Michael Bearer will visit
with her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs, Ray McAlarney at
York, Pa., for the next few weeks.
Born to Mr. and Mrs, Paul iLeb
at the Miners’ Hospital, Spangler,
on Sunday—a son.
Mr. and Mrs. James B. Drury of
Pittsburgh, were Sunday visitors
in town with relatives.
Lieut. Fred J. Fees, Jr, U. S.
M. C., who had been spending the
past several weeks on leave at the
home of his parents, Attorney and
Mrs. Fred J. Fees, left Sunday for
Corpus Christi, Tex., where he is
serving as an instructor at at Air
Base. Accompanying him was his
sister, Miss Marilyn Fees, who ex-
pects to spend a few weeks in
Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Custer and
family of Waynesburg, Pa., were
week end visitors with the lady's
mother, Mrs. Mallie Thomas. Mrs.

Johnstown were week end visitors

Mrs. Anna Roach of Pittsburgh

ed to Johnstown Saturday where
they visited Doss Stich, son of
Mrs. Thomas, who recently under-
went a major operation at the
Mercy Hospital there.
Mr, Michael Mohler, Sr., and Mr.
and Mrs. Michael Mohler, Jr., and
sons, Dick and Leo, were recent
visitors at the Clem Callahan res-
idence in Twin Rocks.
Mrs. Emma Bender, of East Car-
roll Township, who has been ill
for some time, has been removed
to the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Hilary Kibler, at Hastings.
The outdoor Corpus Christi pro-
cession, scheduled for last Sun-
day by St. Benedict's congrega-
tion, was cancelled because of the
inclement weather.
Banns of matrimony were pub-
lished for the first time in St.
Benedict’s Church, Sunday, be-
tween Michael Papson, of Carroll-
town and Helen Ziltansky, Barnes-
boro.
The Religious Vacation School
for young people of the Townships
opened in St. Benedict's Parochial
School on Monday and will con-
tinue with all day sessions for two
weeks.
Fred Farabaugh transacted bus-
iness in Pittsburgh on Monday.
Miss Judith Wentz has secured
a position as stenographer and ty-
pist at St. Francis College, Loret-
to.
Mrs. Mallie Thomas and Miss
Leora Stich wish to extend their
thanks to the members of the Car-
rolltown Fire Company, who So
generously came to their assist-
ance recently by pumping a water
overflow from their cellar.
Dolores Sharbaugh, former local
high school teacher, now located at
Long Beach, Calif., spent several
days during the past week with
her mother, Mrs.' Ella Sharbaugh,
and accompanied her brother, Rev.
Father Cornelius Sharbaugh, T. O.
R., to Washington, D. C., where he
is stationed. Father Cornelius had
also been a visitor with his moth-
er.
Mrs. Minnie Sharbaugh, Mr. and
Mrs. W. Earl Sharbaugh, Mrs. B.
J. Dillon, of this place, and Mrs. D.
J. Murphy, Barnesrboro, are at-
tending the wedding of Miss Mil-
dred Schroth, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Schroth, and Mr. Hugh
John Dugtey, in Newark, N. J., on
Thursday of this week."
Miss Betty Burley, employed by
the Sterling Office Supply Co., in
Johnstown, spent the week end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Julian Burley.
Mrs. Urban A. Stolz entertain-
ed the members of her bridge club
at her home last Thursday even-
ing.
Mrs. Julian Burley and daugh-
ter, Patty, were in Washington, D.
C., for several days, where they
visited Mrs. Burley’s son, Paul,
who is assistant manager at the
Congressional Country Club, at the
National Capital.

Is Observed by Party
Jeanne Blasko observed her
8th birthday anniversary last Sun-
day, when her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Blasko, had a party
in her honor, with a group of her
friends attending. Games were
played, and a lunch was served.
She received many lovely gifts. In
aitendance were Connie Klaswich,
Jane Kelly, Edith Mulligan, Mar-
jorie Krise, Virginia Hayes, Lou-
ise Volk, Marian Buck, Donnie and
Eddie Dubyak, and “Cookie” and
Jackie Blasko of this place, and

Frank Malloy Weds
New Bloomfield Miss
Frank Malloy, son of Attorney
and Mrs. Niece A. Malloy, of this
rlace, and Miss Mary Carol Fens-
temacher, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Fenstemacher, of
New Bloomfield, Pa., were united
in marriage during a nuptial Mass
in Corpus Christi Catholic Church
at Chambersburg, Pa., last Satur-
day morning at 7 o'clock. Attend-
ing the couple were Hugh Malloy,
brother of the bridegroom and
bcth of this place.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Malloy are
students at Shippensburg State

| their studies there. Mr. Malloy is

in the Pacific theatre, and held the
rank of First Sergeant at the time
of his release from service. Mr. and
Mrs. Malloy are spending their
honeymoon in Carrolltown.

Weds Lawrence Valenty
Miss Freda Cantelope, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Cantelope,
of Spangler, became the bride of
Lawrence Valenty, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Valenty, of Barnesboro,
on Wednesdey, June 5th. Father
Charles Smythe officiated at the
nuptial high mass. The double ring
ceremony was used. The bride was
given away by her father at the
Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Bar-
nesboro at 9 a. m.
The bride wore a white satin
gown, finger tip veil, crown of
was Miss Josephine Valenty,
wore a pink net gown, and carried
yellow tea roses. Leo Cantelope,
brother of the bride, was the best
ran. Bridesmaids were Helen Ash-
craft, wearing an aqua gown; Mar-
tha McGulish, attired in a blue
gown, and Marino Valenty, in aqua
gown. All carried yellow tea roses.
Ushers were Domenic Bonano, To
ny Taranto, and Samuel Valenty.
A wedding dinner was served at
the Brandon Hotel in Spangler, to
75 guests, and a reception was giv-
en in Slovak Hall, Barnesboro, to
approximately 200 guests. The
bride was the recipient of many
beautiful gifts.
The couple now are honeymoon-
ing in New York and Canada, and
upon their return will reside in
Barnesboro.
Mrs. Valenty is a graduate of
the Barnesboro High School and
has been employed as a telephone
operator in Barnesboro. Mr. Val-
enty graduated fgrom the Barnes-
bero High School; and served dur-
ing World War II in the U. S. Ar-
my with three years’ service. He
saw duty in the South: Pacific, and
has been home 2 years. He is now
a partner in the Valenty & Sons’
Fruit and Wholesale Deliveries.

Joint Bible School Here
Has Record Enrollment
The Bible Vacation School of the
Methodist and Presbyterian Chur-
ches combined has been a great
success. There has been a record
enrollment of ninety students. Rev.
Warren Sward, pastor of the Ba-
kerton charge, has been conduct-
| ing the school, aided by several
| teachers from both churches. Com-
| mencement service will be held in
| the Presbyterian Church June 1
| Sunday, at 7:30 p. m. The public
lis invited to attend. The work of
| the children will be on display at
this time.

| at the Philadelphia Hospital, is
| spending a two weeks’ vacation at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
| Mrs. Walter Kirsch.

Anthony Fenello Jr., is spending
two weeks with his grandmother,
Mrs. Mary Fenello, at Detroit,
Mich.
The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Spang-
ler Fire Company held their regu-
lar meeting Friday evening. Plans
were made for delegates to attend
the Hastings meeting on June 26.
Delegates elected were Mrs. Ruth
Brooks and Mrs. Anthony Fenello.
