SPANGLER LAD, IN COMA | FOR TOTAL OF 453 HOURS | DIES SATURDAY NIGHT Unconscious for nearly 453 hours— the result of injuries sustained June 19, : when a bicycle on which he was riding was struck by an automobile—Harry Stoltz, Jr., 15, of Spangler, died at 6:30 on Saturday evening in the Miners hospital, Spangler. | The lad suffered multiple fractures of the skull when his bicycle was | struck by an automobile driven by Tony Ducca, Barnesboro, on Route 219, which is the main street in Span- gler. The victim had been a hospital patient since the time of the accident | an dfailed to regain consciousness at any time. | Coroner Patrick McDermott listed death as the result of a fracture of the skull and hypostatic pneumonia. The | lad’s condition had been critcal since | admission to the institution. Leo Bearer, 12, of Hastings R. D, |! who was riding with Stoltz on the bi- | | cycle at the time of the accident, es- caped with minor injuries including brushburns of the right knee, left leg and right hand, According to Chief ' of Police Michael Whalen of Spang- I ler, the automobile was traveling in the same direction as the bicycle when the accident occurred. Ducca said that he was blinded by the lights of an au- tomobile traveling in the opposite di- rection and did not see the bicycle un- til too late to avoid the accident. Harry Stoltz, Jr., was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stoltz of Spangelr. He was a Sophomore in the Spangler high school and during the past year was a member of the basketball squad. Besides his parents he leaves these brothers and sisters: Kathleen, Gloria, Walter, Dorothy, Jack, Marjorie, Mar- lin, James, Robert and Mary Stoltz, all at home .He was the oldest boy in the family. Guilfoyle, D. D.,, of Altoona, announc- ed a contest for the writing of the pa- geant on the founder of Catholicity in this district. The bishop indicated that the pageant would be presented in the new college stadium at St. Francis col- lege, probably on Memorial Day.
