A birthday surprise party was held |
last Friday evening at the home of Mr. |
and Mrs. William Hoover of East Car-
roll township, in honor of Mr. Hoov-
er’s birthday anniversary. A very en-
joyable evening was spent in playing
pinochle. Prizes were awarded to Den-
nis Link, Ted Donahue, Mrs. Ted Don-
ahue and Mrs. Modestus Strittmatter,
and consolation prizes were given Mo-
destus Strittmatter and Mrs. L. A.
Yeckley. After cards a delicious lunch
was served. Mrs. Hoover received

Miss Helen Bender, gradute nurse
at the Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh,
spent the week end with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bender of near
town.
St. Mary's School held its spring
music festival on Thursday and ¥ri-
| day evenings, April 13th and 14th. The
children who played solos were: Rob-
ert and Charles Swab, Jean Ann
Squires, Ada Thomas, Shirley Doug-
loss, John Quevy, William Litzinger,
| Jane Cooper, Barbara Bloom, Eileen
Owens, George Weakland, and Leora
Karlheim. The pupils of the fifth, six-
th seventh and eighth grades present-
ed the operetta, “The Awakening of
Spring.” The cast of characters were:
Vicla Link as Mother Nature; Hazel
McConnell and Helen Wyland, ladies-
in-waiting; Alfred Gill and Adrian
Baylock, heralds. The fairy group in-
cluded: Jane Cooper, Shirley Douglass,
Grace Leary, Dolores Mangcld, Ruth
| Luther, Mary Mulligan and Verncda
Neller. The eleves were: Adrian Cra-
ver, James Dluzansky, Raymond Kari-
heim, William Litzinger, Benedict Mc-
Nulty, Alfred Noel, Joseph Shatrosky,
Timothy Sheehan and Richard Stasko.
The various flowers were represented
by the children. In the “hyacinth”
group were: Grace Bearer, Anna Ma-
rie Huber, Leona Karlheim, Helen Mc-
Laughlin, Eleanor Long, Helen Over-
berger, Julia Silvani, Elaine Yahner.
The boys of the sixth grade were
