FORENSIC LEAGUE CONTEST PLANNED Cambria County School's An- nual Participation in Events Discussed At a well attended meeting of the Superintendents and Supervising Prin- cipals of the righ schools of Cambria County coming under the supervision of Dr. M. S. Bentz, County -Super- intendent of Schools, held in Dr. Bentz's office at Ebensburg, Friday afternoon, matters pertaining to high school entrance requirements and the Forsenic League contests were discus- sed at length. In regard to the for- mer, Dr. Bentz anounced that the de- tails of a plan looking to the setting up of a course of study would be sent to the principals within the next few ddys. There was also some discus- sion at the meeting in regard to as- suming some of the responsibility for the care of needy persons throughout the county. It was decided that the school heads would aid to their fullest extent in the distribution of such arti- cle sas could be procured and Dg. Bent's office will be the headquarters for the receiving and distribution of such articles. The list of subpects to be used in Forensic League contests this year will be sent out ot the various schools within a short time and the list as announced by Dr. Bentz includes de- bate, extemporaneous speaking, ora- tion and reading. The subject of de- bate is “Resolved, That the State As- sembly Should Enact Legislation Pro- viding an Old Age Pension.” The music contests wil lhave a larg instrumental group, a smal instrumen- ta group of piano and three instru- ments ,another of a piano and seven instruments, an instrumenta quartet without piano, an ensemble of from two to five with pino, an instrumen- tal group of from six to 12 without piano instrumental solos on piano harp, trumpet, French horn, baritone, tuba, flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet bas- soon violin, viola, cello and bass viol. The large group wil lconsist of from three to 100 girls, or the same number of boys, or a mixed chorus. The small vocal group will include boys’ quatet, girls’ quartet, girls trio, mixed quartet and double quartet. The vocal solos include soprano, tenor and bass. The classification of high schools is based upon the number of students, schools having 700 or more students being in the A class, those with 2 roe y | to 700 being in the B. Class and uneder 250 in the C Class. All contests will be decided on the point system. NANTY-GLO IN LINE FOR FREE DELIVERY OF MAIL With the majority of requirements already completed and the remaining few easily accessible, Nanty-Glo bor- ough is now in line for free govern- ment mail delivery. Among the requirements of a town | to be granted free mail delivery by the postoffice department are that the | receipts of the local postoffice be a least $5,000 per year, that there be | continuous sidewalks in the districts | served, whinch must include a popula- tion of 1,500 or more; that all streets | must be marked with names of streets | at intersections and that, before the | service is establishel, all houses be | numbered and provided with suitable | mail boxes. GALLITZIN MAN FATALLY VJURED AT HIGH BRIDGE | re { Struck by a pasenger train on the | Pennsylvania railroad about noon last | Thursday at a point know as High Bridge, Michael Sonnefeld, aged 36 years and single, was fatally injured | dying of a skull fracture while on his his way to a hospital in Altoona. The victim is believed to have been gath- ering coal along the railroad and em- erged above the embankment just as an eastbound train was passing. Ap- parently a cylinder head on the loco- motive struck Sonefeld, fracturing the skull. En route to the hospital, the vic- tim passed away in an ambulance. The case reported to the coroner of Blair county, who made an investigation. The deceased is survived by his father, Peter Sonnefeldof Gallitzin and several brothers and sisters. His mbther died less than a year ago. SOUTH FORK HAS NEW LEGION POST Organization of the South Fork Post of the American Legion was perfected at South Fork one evening last week at a meeting of 35 service men from that section. James A. Davis was nam- ed Commander of the new unit. The new post was organized under the dir- ection of Attorney Thomas W. Bender, of Johnstown, District Commander of Cambria County. Officers elected, in addition to Commander Davis, were as follows: First Vice Commander, Leslie R. Davis; Second Vice Commander, Thomas Yates; Adjutant, Joseph Neid- erlander: Finance Officer, John Jones; Sergeant-at-Arms, William Le wis; Chaplani, Charles Hand; Historian, Joseph Plummer. The South Fork district will include Ehrenfeld, St. Michael, Wilmore and Summerhill and a membership cam- paign will be started immediately. More than 250 ex-service men are res- idents of that section. Installation of the officers took place immediately after the election.
