Mrs. Mary Alpin, wife of the Rev.
Mr. Alpin, pastor of the Barnesboro
Baptist church, died on Monday mor-
ning at the Miners hospital at Span-
oler. She was admitted to the insti-
tution on Aug. 11.
The Rev. John R. Thomas, pastor
of the Ebensburg Congregational
Church, Sunday conducted the six-
tieth anniversary services at the
Bethany Congregational church

Wilmore.
Eighth grade examinations for all
who failed or who were unable
take the regular tests last spring were
given to nearly 200 hoys and

James Norman, infant son of Mr.
and Mrs. Rodney . Diehl, died at the
parental home in Cresson on Thurs-
day last of convulsions.
Steve Markovich, aged 5 years of
Portage died at the parental home
there last Friday of pneumonia. He is
survived by his parents and several
brothers and sisters.
Miss Margaret Fisher, aged 64, a
resident of South Fork, died at that
place of a complication of diseases on
Vhursday last. .
Damage estimated at $3,000 was oc-
casioned by a “fire in the stock room
of the Charles McKeown printing es-
tablishment in Johnstown on Friday.
Five thousand persons assembled on
Thursday of last week at Williams-
burg, Blair county, to hold their an-
nual community picnic. Charles M.
Schwab: of Lortteo, born in the town,
was the guest of honor.
Miss Anna Yuhas, aged 15 years,
a student at the Portage High School
died on Friday night at the Memorial
hospital after an illness of a compli-
cation of diseases.
South Fork was picked as the place
for holding the 1928 convention of
the Northern Cambria Firemen at the
convention sessions held in Barnesbo-
ro last week.
Miss Ruth Eger and Carl Conrad,
beth of Sankertown, were united in
marriage at Cresson last week.
According to the Cresson Record
Joseph Dlbruski, of Patton was ar-j|
rested in Cresson last week on a
charge of malicious mischief made by
a citizen of that place, alleeing that
in operating a motor truck he knock-
ed down an electric light pole, and
failed to notify authorities of the ac-
cident. At a hearing he was ordered
to make restitution and was given a
severe reprimand.
..Union miners will hold a commun-
ity picnic at South Fork on Labor
Day.

Between 350 and 400 men employ-
ed by the Hughes Coal Company at
Benscreek, who are operating their
mine on the Jacksonville agreement,
are out on strike this week on an
effort to have certain wages paid
adjusted.
Dr. W. D. Hall of Glen Campbell
has returned to his home after spend- |;
ing a couple of months studying in
Europe.
John Henry Madison, 62 year old
miner of South Fork. died at that
place on Thursday last. He was born
in England and came to this country
at the age of 17. His wife preceded |
him to the grave. A number of chil-
dren survive.
Five members
detachment stationed
of the state police
at Ebensburg
were transferred Sunday to Spangler |
where they will have headquarters at |
the Brandon hotel, six members of the
same troop remain in Ebensburg, and
three are stationed at Twin Rocks. It
is rumored that additional members |
of Troop E. of Harrisburg will be as-
signed to Cambria County during the
week.

TO CLOSE NEXT THURSDAY |
Thursday of next week being des-
iginated as Northern Cambria day at
the annual Cambria county fair at
Ebensburg,

ciation, P. O. Holtz, of Hastings, an-
nounces that the stores of the North
Cambria Merchants will be closed all
day Thursday. Sept 8th. instead of the
usual half day.
STEPHEN REJBA,
Stephen Rejba, aged 50, died on
Saturday night at the home of a nei-
ghbor where he was visiting. A phy-
sician was summoned but he was dead
before his arrival. Death was found to
have been caused by acute alcohol-
ism. The widow and three children
survive.
The funeral services were conduct- |
ed at nine o’clock on Tuesday morn-
ing in the Greek church at Barnesbo-
ro and interment was in the church
cemetery.
PICNIC ND PIG SHOW.
A picnic and pig show will be held
at St. Lawrence on Saturday of this
week, the St. Lawrence Pig Club
sponsoring the doings. The social
part of the affair will be in the na-|
ture of a basket picnic and there will
be dancing on the program. For the
show Judges from Penn State Coll-
ege and the County Farm Bureau will
be on hand to decide the, respective
merits of the swine.
