. t!a,Our citizens will be eorry to hear
of the illness of our aged postmaster,
Mr. Luther, having received a stroke of
paralysis on Sunday morning last. His
age, which is nearly 76, will render his
complete recovery somewhat doubfful.
Bjy-The weather is at last getting
pleasant, and will perhaps give our far
mers an opportunity to got in their corn,
potatoes, and " garden sass." The
month of May generally this year has
been very unfavorable for agricultural
purposes or May parties.
Change of Firm. By reference to
our advertising columns those interested
will learn that Win M. Singerly and Jos

not remark this as one who makes only

BQThrough a mistake some weeks
s:ucc a communication was published in
the Advocate without being accompanied
by tho authoress' n auie, aud we do so
again this week, for tho last time.
Violet should bear this in mind, and we
hope she will accompany her next MS.
with her name. We think our readers
will agree with us when we say she has
no need of being ashamed of her pro

If the Fenian leaders, Col Burke and
Col. McClure, who pleaded gutlty aud
thus avowed their treason, are hanged
pursuant to law, tho authoritcs expect
eudden and sharp reprisal on the part
of the members of the FeuLn organiza
tion here.
The government is anxiously and
actively engaged in considering the
question.
The counsel who prosecuted for the
Crown are guaided night and day by a
force of armed policemen, who appear
in citizen's dress.
Col. Burke was sentenced lo bo haul
ed on Weduesday, tho 2!th of May.
Mr. Doran's seutenco has, I believe
lieen commuted.
Should Burke be executed, it is most
likely that Col. McClure will share the
same fate, us he plead guilty, and now
lies coudcoinod to uudergo the highest
penalty of the law.
London, May 27. The question
whether the death sentences of the
Fenian convicts shall be carried out, en
grosses public attention. The press of
Eoglaud and Ireland generally urge
that the scutenccs bo commuted to iuj
prisonmont for life.
