Scientists have found In a cave in Switzerland bones of men who lived 100,000 years ago, when life was In con stant danger from wild beasts. To-day, the danger, as shown by A.. W. Tlie o.iruiuents in the Herald a few weekn hk with reference to the selt-c-tton of the aruhl'i-et, hy the Weft Reynoldsvllle school board for tbe work on ihi r proposed school building, was, no doubt, mud without an.v knowledge of the true state of affairs, or the writer must have been one of those who, when they have a few dollars to spend fur the appearanoe of the town, would prefer to give It to borne foreigner rather than stimulate homo Industry, and then walk the streets and bowl "poverty." It Is an undisputed fact that there were plans submitted to tbe West Reynoldsvllle school board by home talent for their new school building that were superior, compiled with all state laws, and were acknowledgd to meet tbe requirements of the board, and no real justification can be shown for the action in engaging a foreign architect. The writer does not question the right of tbe school board to engage a foreign architeot, only the real prin cipal of such action does nut show Interest by the school board In the welfare of the town. Such action, practiced by others as well, is one of the real causes of our town being In the state of poverty that it Is. If the citizens will take notice, people from other towns do not oome here to patronize any business of any descrip tion within the limits of our town, but there are always people with loose scruples (or without any at all) who get themselves Into positions where discretion should be the better part of valor, but the trust Is betrayed for for tbe sake of some personal advantage they might gain. "When Knighthood Waa in Flower " Paul Kester in arranging Charles Major's novel, "When Knighthood was in Flower," for dramatlo use, bas sue ceeded remarkably well In preserving the spirit of the book. Variations from the storv as Mr. Major told It have necessarily been made, but they are slight and their only effect Is to com press and vivify the tale. The result of Mr. Kester's efforts bas been the most stirring romantic drama produced ' In years, and It affords Miss Grace Merrltt, who appears as "Mary Tudor," an opportunity to display some of the most subtle and elusive points of her skill as a comedlene, as well as gives ample scope for a demonstration of her ability to portray emotional scenes, which at times strike a note of genuine tragedy.
