couple of days ago and fractured a bone
in left wrist and now carries his arm in

The rain freezing on the trees last

limping for ten days with a very sore

ANOTHER ARM CHAIR VACANT.
Mrs. Jeannett Connell Died at Home of
Her Daughter, Mrs A. P. King,
8unday Morning.
At 4 50 a. m. Sunday, December 20,
1908, Mrs. Jeannett Connell peacefully
departed this life at home of her
daughter, Mrs. A. P. King, on Grant
street. She was conscious up to the
last moments, realized that the time
of her departure was at hand, but death
had no terrors for her. She had been
making preparations for the Eternal
Life for years and was ready and willing
to go. With her It was ttmply falling
asleep In this world to awaken In the
Heavenly Land. The last few years
of her life Mrs. Connell was a great
bible student. She devoted most of
her time in reading it she read noth
ing else and although she had read
the bible through a number of times,
yet she found new joy and consolation
in the book continuously.
Mrs. Connell was born in Glasgow,
Scotland, January 4, 1828, and was 79
years, II months and 20 days old at time
of death. Her maiden name was Jean
nett McMullen. While yet in her
teens she was united In marriage to
William Connell, who died 19 years
ago. She was in comparatively good
health, for a woman of almost four
so ire years, until four weeks ago last
Suurday when she accidentally broke
bur left hip, which was such a shock
to her system that she began falling
and grew worse until her demise. She
had been a member of the Baptist
church for a number of years. ,
Funeral service was held at the resi
dence of Mr. and Mrs. King at 7.30
p. m. Monday, conducted by Rev. A.
D. McKay, and the body was taken
from here on the 6.35 a. m. train over
the P. K. R. yesterday to Lock Haven
for Interment beside husband of Mrs.
Connell.
Deceased is survived by six daugh
ters, Mrs. W. H. Smith, of Hayworden,
Iowa, Mrs. X. B. Ringler, of Sisters
vllle, W. Va., Mrs. J. F. Seltzer, of
Lock Hayen, Mrs. A. P. King, of Reyn
oldsville, Mrs. W. J. McAndrews, of
Turtle Creek, Pa., Mrs. W. N. Hop
kins, of Wllme'rdlng, Pa. Four of the
daughters were here to attend the
funeral, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hopkins
oeing unable to get here.
Junior B. Y. P. U. will hold a social
and receive a small treat at the Baptist
parsonage at 2.00 p. m. to-morrow,
Thursday.
George W. Sykes, of the Sykes
Woolen Mill Co., is the latest victim
of "automobilitls" in Reynoldsville.
His new car, la Buick, appeared on the
streets Monday.
Rev. John F. Black's theme at the
Methodist church next; Sunday morn
ing will be "Success Assured," und in
the evening "The New Year." Special
music In the evening.
The teachers' county Institute held
in Brookville last week was largely
attended and was a very Interesting
Institute. Good talent was provided
for day sessions and good entertainers
for evening.
The Reynoldsville Woolen Company
has employed a new designer, J. B.
Schofield, and a new dyer, H. L. Web
ster, and it is the Intention of this com
pany to start the mill In the near future
on fine goods.
Valiant Lodge No. 461, Knights of
Pythias, elected the following officers;

H G. Castner died Thursday, Decem
ber 17, 1308, and was buried In the Bap
tist cemetery Sunday afternoon. Rev.
John F. Black conducted the funeral
service. Mrs. Castner Is very thankful
for kindness shown her and family after
death of Mr. Castner.
Wayde Breakey, of Rose township,
killed a porker on Saturday w-blch was
a top-notcber for weight, age con
sidered. The bog was 256 days old and
swung the scales, wben dressed, at 328
pounds. Let us bear from'tbose who

Mrs. Susannah Cochran, relict of
Matt Cochran, made a quilt several
years ago with 2,808 pieces in it, which
was considered quite a piece of handi
work, but she has just finished another
quilt that contains over two hundred
more pieces than were In the first quilt.
This one has 3,042 pieces In It, all sewed
by hand.
To-night the State College team and
the Athletics of Reynoldsville will play
a game of basket ball in the Evans
skating rink at this place. It la ex
pected that this will be a hotly con
tested game. Fred McEntlre, one of
our town boys who Is a student in State
College, formerly a player with the
Athletic team, will play with State
College team to-night.
A Reynoldsville checker and chess
club was organized on the evening of
Deo. 2L The officers elected were as
follows: J. Van Reed, Pres.; John
Ross, Sea., and "Jimmie" Campbell,
Treas. The next meeting will be held
In Mr. Campbell's shoe shop on Monday
evening, Deoember 28th. A cordial in

ELECTROCUTED IN MINE.
Pascuale Brocole Came in Contact With
Motor Wire in Bykesville Mine.
Pasouale Brocole, a miner, was elec
trocuted In the J. &C.C.& I. Co. mine
at Sykesville last Saturday by striking
his head against an electrio motor wire.
There is a gangway for the men to get
in and out of the mine, but some of
them travel the motor road, which is
very dangerous on account of the
eleotrlo wire that runs the motor being
low. The men have been repeatedly
warned not to travel the motor road on
account of the danger of touching the
electrio wire, but they occasionally run
the risk, and that is how Brocole lost
his life.
Give An Apple or Potato.
Thursday evening the Methodist
Episcopal Sunday school will hold a
Christmas-entertainment and a treat in
the church and all who attend, young
or old, are requested to carry with
them an apple or potato or Christmas
toy for poor children of town. Of coin se
one apple or one potato is not the limit.
Boys and girls desiring so to do can
take one, two or three apples or pota
toes, or a bushel of each if they want to.
Going to Florida.
J. J. Long, who had been In the
mercantile business in Reynoldsville
almost three years, has closed out his
stock of goods at auction and will move
to Jacksonville, Florida, soon after the
first of next month. For benefit of her
health Mrs. Long has been spending
the winters in Florida and that is one
reason Mr. Long has decided to move to
the southland. During their residence
in Reynoldsville Mr. Long and family
have made numerous . friends here
who are sorry to see them move away.
Bought New Stock.
W. Harry Moore, groceryman, whose
Store was destroyed by fire on night
of December 5, has decided not to move
away from Reynoldsville, which be first
talked of doing. Mr. Moore was in
New York City last week buying an
entire new stock of groceries. He will
occupy one of the store rooms In Cen
tennial Hall until be can have a brick
building erected on site of his old store
room. Mr. Moore has a large circle
of friends in Reynoldsville who are
glad that he has concluded to continue
in business in our town.
'Phones Out of Commission.
Last Friday the Summerville and
Bell telephone lines in this section
were out of commission and people who
have become accustomed to talking"
over the phones appreciated the fact
Friday that the telephone Is a very
convenient thing to have in office, Btore
or residence. The rain freezing on the
wires Thursday evening was the cause
of the talking machines being out of
working order Friday. . The Summer
ville wires dropped down on the trolley
wireB Bnd were electrocuted burned
out on the fuse rack In the central
office at this place. The operator who
was on duty In the office here when the
telephone wires fell on the "live wires
had a Fourth of July celebration for
a few seconds all to herself.

Married in Brookville Monday.
Miss Maude J. Jennings, daughter of
Mrs. Isaac F. Miller, of this place, and
J. Clarence Stephenson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. M. Stephenson, of West Reyn
oldsville, and nephew of ye editor, were
united in marriage at the Methodist
Episcopal parsonage In Brookville by
Dr. H. G. Hall, at 10.00 a. m. Monday,
December 21, 1908. Clarence and bride
left Brookville on the 1.55 p. m. west
bound train on P. R. R. on a short wed
ding trip to Pittsburgh and several
other places. They expect to return to
Reynoldsville to spend Christmas.
Clarence is an extra engineer on the
P. R. R., with headquarters at Brae-
burn, Pa., at present and it is likely
they will reside there.
Fair During Holidays.,
Don't forget the fair to bp held by
the Altar Society of the Catholic
church in the Odd Fellows hall four
days dhring the holidays, December 25
and 26 and January 1 and 2. On the
25th and 20th a fine supper will be
served, commencing.' at 5.00 p.', m.
Saturday night, Dec. 20, there will be
a special entertainment for children.
On New Years a progressive eucnre.
This will be one of the most enjoyable
events that has ever been held in Reyn

Mystifying Durno.
Durno, the magician and illusionist,
gave an entertainment in Assembly
ball last night that was full of fun and
mystery. As a msgician, Illusionist
and ventriloquist Durno has few equals.
He Is certainly a first-ctafs fun pro
voker and succeeded in keeping the
large audience In a good humor for
two hours. Carl Harmannj the violin
ist, is a master of the violin.
Murder in DuBois Last Night.
Murder and perhaps suicide In Du
Bois last night. George Schrecongost
shot and killed his wife and then shot
himself. He is In the DuBois hospital
not expected to live. Schrecongost was
jealous of his wife.
Enlisted in Navy Yesterday.
Michael J. Ward-aud T L. Heemer,
two young men of Reynoldsville, en
listed In the U. S. Navy yesterday.
They will be stationed at Newport
News, R. I., for the present.
Roland Sykes was in Williamsport all
of last week taking instruction on how
to run an automobile. He will travel
over the country with his father, G.
W. Sykes, and manlpu'ate his new auto.
Mr, Sykes, who is salesman fur the
Sykes Woolen Mill Co , will travel in
auto next year.

holidays at home of his father, S. J.

United States.
Mrs. Matilda Borland, of North
Jared, Erie Co., Pa., vlBited her
brother, Charles E. Jones, in this place
the past week. This is the first time
this brother and sister had seen each
other for thirty-seven years.'
Al. F. Harris and wife, who have
been traveling through southern states
with a vaudeville company, came to
home of the former's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. George Harris, in this place
yesterday to spend the holidays
Willliun Lusk, of Birmingham, Ala.,
visited his uncle, James Lusk, on Pleas
ant Avenue the past week. Twenty
five years ago William visited M Uncle
James, who then resided in Elk county,
Pa., and he bad not visited him since
that time until last week.
Rushing Business.
A specialist came to town Saturday
afternoon and was a very busy man
until noon Monday, when he left town.
People who called to ee him were ad
mitted in their turn, each one was
numbered. At 3 30 Monday morning"
No. 72, who had waited all nieht, was
admitted ln;o the presence of the doctor
for a consultation, and there were
others still waiting to sea the doctor.
