On account of the absenoe of Dr.
A. J. Meek, who was at Cambridge
Springs, Pa., with his wife, there was
no preaching in tbe Baptist church
last Sunday. Dr. Meek expects to fill
bis pulpit next Sunday. Under the

Dr. John W. Warnlck, of Johnson
burg, at one time a groceryman of Rey
noldsville, brother-in-law of Samuel
Ressler and D. II. Young of this place,
Is In the Mercy hospital In Pittsburg
dangerously 111. Dr. Warnlck went to
tbe hospital several weeks ago for
an operation and whllo there took
typhoid fever and pneumonia followed.
A. H. Fleming and wife were called
to Houtzdale lust week on account of
the death of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mar
tha Fleming, who died in the hospital
at Phtlipsburg on Wednesday. Inter
ment was ruado In tbe Curwensvllle
cemetery Monday forenoon. The fun
eral party came from Houtzdale to Cur
wensvllle on a special train.
At the meeting of tbe Women's
Relief Corps last Friday evening the
time of holding the regular meetings
was changed from Friday evening to
Thursday afternoon. The next regular
meeting will be held on Thursday after
noon of next week, December 20, and
on the second and last Thursday after
noons of each month thereafter.
It Is rumored among the employes
of the Low Grade division of the P.
R. R. that this division will become
part of tbe P. & E. division, as it was
several years ago, and that the River
division will become part of the Cone
maugh division. At present the River
and Low Grade divisions are part of
the Buffalo and Allegheny Valley
division.
C. A. Bartlett, of this place, who
was foreman of the carpenter crew
on tbe Low Grade Division of tbe
P. R. R., has been promoted to assist
ant to the mastnr carpenter of the
Low Grade and River Divisions, with
headquarters at Klttanclng, where Mr.,
Bartlett will move the latter part
of this month. A. U. Schuckers, of
this place, has take Mr. Bartlett's
place as foreman of the Low Grade
carpenter crew.

Hon. John W. Reed, judge of the
aoveral courts of Jefferson county, was
t Beaver Falls, Pa., tbe past week
bearing the evidence in the case of
John J. Patterson, a hotel proprietor,
who was charged with soliciting tbe
otvFder of Judge Richard Holt, a judge
in Seaver county. The jury brought
ia a erdict Monday morning of ''not
guilty;" Judge Reed evidently thought
Patterson was guilty, for he Informed
the jury, when they brought in their
verdiet, fctat he was surprised at their
verdict.
Thomas Baggerty, of this place, a
National official of tbe United Mine
Workers of America, went to Indian
spoils, led., yesterday to attend a jotat
meeting of tbe mtaera and operators to
try and re-establish the inter-state joint
movement, which was discontinued last
year on account i f tbe strike. Mr. Hag-
gerty said before leavlag. here tbat It
was his opinion "that tfaU joint meet
ing would re-establish Uia inter-state
Movement, whloh includes four states.
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illi
nois, and tbat it will mesa a settlement
for districts."
York Mills in Operation.
The American Silk Co., that recently
went Into bankruptcy, started their silk
mills at York, Pa., on Monday of this
week, ard ills expected .hut the silk
mill In Keynoldsvilto, owned by the
same comp tny, will soon bo In operation
again. .

On account of next Wednesday being

Two Miners Killed.
Wednesday morning of last week
Joseph L8koskl and Wulter Koslotkl,
two PolHn(lur9, wore burled beneath
a heavy fall of rock and earth In B.
& S. shaft No. 1 at DuBols. The men
were cutting pillnrs and the roof fell.
A crew of men went to work Im
mediately to remove the rock and
earth from tbe bodies and It was not
until Thursday afternoon that they
succeeded in gett'ng either one of
the bodies, when Kosloskl was found.
The body of Leskoskl was found early
Friday morning. The funeral of
the two young men was held Satur
day morning.

Rumored Candidate for Congress.
It is rumored that Ex-Judge Harry
White, of Indiana, will be a candidate
for the Republican nomination for
Congress In this district at the primary
election next April. Judge White Is
an able jurist, an orator and a brilliant
man, capable and especially well quali
fied to represent tbe people of this
district In the Congressional halls of
this great government. The fact tbat
he Is an old soldier, one of the loyal and
brave men who responded to tbe
country's call in tbe perilous times
of 1861 to 1965, will only add to his
popularity and make falm a very strong
candidate In the district. Judge White
would get a large vote in Jefferson
county if he seeks the nomination for
Congress.

ASSOCIATION ACTIVE.
Takes up Important Projects for Wel
fare of Reynoldsville.
Four projects of prime Importance
to Reynoldsville came up for discussion
In the meeting of tbe Business Men's
Association Thursday night and tbe
Interost displayed promises well for
tbe fu'.ure business Interests of the
town.
The first project was to secure to
Reynoldsville tbe future benefits of
tbe manufacturing of an Invention of
one of her citizens which from present
prospects will soon be of vast Import
ance. The second was the announcement
that a new Industry would In all proba
bility be secured to Reynoldnville with
in a few weeks.
The tnlrd was the reading of a propo
sition to establish a JI25.000 plant at
this place for the manufacture of a
product now produced outside of the
state.
Lastly tbe clay deposits around Rey
noldsville were considered and valuable
suggestions made for securing an analy
sis of the various beds for future use.
At tbe meeting the secretary re
ported tbe enrollment of four new
members since the previous session and
assurances from a number of others
tbat their checks would soon be forth
coming.
The next meeting of the Association
will be held tbe night after Christmas,
December 2flth, in the headquarters
on second floor of the I. O. O. F. build
ing: Voted for National President.
The various local unions of the
United Mine Workers of America In
District No. 2 voted last- week for
their choice for National President
to succeed John Mitchell. There are
two candidates for the office, Hon.
W. B. Wilson, of Blossburg, secretary-
treasurer of tbe National organization,
and T. L. Lewis, vice-president of the

By a score of 30 to 15 tbe Brookvllle
high school team won the first game
of basket ball played with the Reyaolds
ville high school team this season.
The contest Friday night was a lively
affair in which Brookville showed
tbe effects of three months'' practice
in superior team work. The Reyaolds
ville boys have had little or ao practice
as yet this season and their work was
very fair considering this handicap

Monday morning for their new home
at Wetumpka, Alabama. As stated
last week, their host of friends were
sorry to see them move away, but wish

Dr. B. E. Hoover was called to
Winslow, Gaaklll township, Monday
on account of the Illness of bis father,
S. T. Hoover, who was Injured a few
days ago by bis horse running away
and throwing him out of buggy. Mr.
Hoover had three ribs brokon. He
Is 83 years old.
