"Maniacal furor," xanKerated ego
. Urn" and brainstorm" are some of the
terms used for a rich man supposed to
. insane. A man in the ordinary walk
. of life would ha called crazy.
A hill has boen Introduced In the
tale legislature which. If It becomes a
law, will compel each band of gypsies
to take out an annual license from the
county treasurer, at a cost of "0 00,
. jjood only In the county whore granted.
If arretted for not complying with the
law, offenders may be released by pay
ing costs and taking out a license at
once, otherwise a fine of from WiO.OO to
(100 shall be levied.
After July 1, 1007, It will not be
necessary to go to the postoflloe buy
a special delivery stump to have a
letter delivered promptly on receipt of
it at the office to which It has been
directed, but five extra two cent stamps
and the letter marked, "speciul deliv
ery" will then bo all that is necessary
to guarantee quick delivery of the
letter. It will be much more conven
ient than the special delivery stamp
system now used. ThlB Is a new law
. passed by congress.
Of all the contemptible people that
Inhabit this mundane sphere, wo think
' the slanderer should stand at the head
of the class. When a man or woman
becomes suspicious of another and on
the grounds of suspicion alone throw
out Insinuations until others take It up
and the suspicions are whispered around
as facts, then, we say, the originator of
the slander is even meaner than the
highwayman or the burglar, who only
steal money or valuables, which can be
' regained, while the slanderer taints
" your good name and steals your richest
possession. A close observer will notice
that the person who is quick to be sus-
plclous of others, no matter what so
- clety they may circulate In, are not to
. be trusted themselves. The licentious
man, the harlot, liar or thief generally
Judges every other person by themselves
and think that others are not virtuous,
honest and truthful, while the virtuous,
honest and truthful person 1b not al
ways looking tor blemishes tn the char
acter of others. The bible says: "Unto
the pure all things are pure: but unto
them that are defiled Is nothing pure."
A large number of church members
in Reynoldsvllle, and this town is no
exception, are only faithful in their
attendance at the church services dur
ing the time of special evangelistic ser
. vloes, and when the Bpeolal effort doses
they are too busy to take one night in
the week to attend prayer' meetings,
yet while the special meetings are
': going on they attend every night
' in the week. Many of these specia
meeting-church members seldom get
: 6ut to preaching service more than
'" once a month, and tn some cases net
1 that often, during the regular church
services through the year. ' That kind
i of church membership is snare and
: delusion. A christian should be as
faithful in his church attendance when
there is no special effort on as he is
during a revival meeting. In most
oases the exouse of not having time to
attend the mid-week service is only an
xouse. The real reason is because
. they don't want to attend. Then it is
.., remarkable how many people are sick
, ' on Sunday who are able to perform
their work every day in the week.
.. . Sunday illness is chronlo with some
, people. The good book don't say "be
thou faithful during a special series of
meetings," but it does say, "be thou
faithful unto death" and then the re
ward is promised.
The next primary election, which
must be generally observed over the
entire state, will be held the first Sat
urday in June, and is known as the
spring primary. At this election all
candidates for offices to be filled at the
general election in November, with the
exception of those nominated by nation'
al or state convention, will be noml
nated, as well as the officers of the varl
oub political parties. At these pri
' maries the commissioners are required
under the act to provide ballot boxes,
official ballots for all political parties,
and all other supplies. The election
will be conduoted by the regular elec-
tion offioers, and the polls will be open
from 2.00 in the afternoon to 8.00 in the
evening and from 1.00 to 9.00 p. m. all
licensed places will be closed. The
election officers will receive half pay
for the services which is paid by the
county treasurer, who in turn receives
the money from the state treasurer.
Persons desiring to be candidates' for
state offices must file petitions with the
secretary of the commonwealth at least
our weeks prior to June 1, and in all
other cases at least throe weeks before
June 1, with county commissioners.
The petitions must be signed by voters
representing the party proposed politic
ally, viz: For members of Congress,
judges of courts and state senators, 100
qualified electors, and for represent
atives and offices to be voted for by the
entire county, fifty qualified voters.
