Rev. Father
ORDINATION ANNIVERSARY.
Father T. Brady Given Reception and
Valuable Presentb.
Mention was made in The Star last
week that Tuesday, May 2!Hh, was the
twenty-fifth anniversary of Father
Torrence Brady's ordination Into the
priesthood, but on account of going to
press early Tuesday evening to give
the office force a vacation Decoration
Day, we were unable to give any
particulars of the reception given to
Father Brady Tuesday evening.
The reception was held In the
parochial school hall, there was a large
crowd present and it proved to be a
very pleasant and profitable reception
for Father Brady and an exceedingly
enjoyable occasion for all those who
were present. P. A. Hordman presided
and introduced the speakers and proved
himself a capable man for that position.
Lawyer Clement W. Flynn, In his
smooth and eloquent way, In behalf of
Father Brady's friends, presented him
with $325.00 in cash, gold headed cane
and a morris chair. The chair was the
gift of the school children. Father
Brady responded to the presentation
address. Ho was greatly surprised at
the large sum of money presented to
him, especially at this time when the
miners have been on a striice eight or
nine weeks. He appreciates the
presents because it Is an evidence to
him that he has a large number of warm
friends in this place.
Interesting and excellent addresses
were made by Father MoGivnoy, of
DuBois, Father John Kearns, of Green
ville, a former Reynoldsviile boy,
Father Joseph Zubrzckl, of Adrian, and
Father Lynch, of Reynoldsviile. Mem
bers of the L. C. B. A. Berved refresh
ments. Father Brady was born in the north
of Ireland. Early In life he came to
America. He graduated in St. Bona
venture College, Allegany, N. Y. He
spent one year in New Bethlehem after
being ordained and Berved the Reyn
oldsviile Catholto church during that
year, and twenty-four years ago was
sent as resident pastor of the church in
this place. On acconnt of his long
residence here he is known to a large
circle of people and is greatly beloved
by his parlshoners.
The above picture of Fathor Brady
was taken several years ago, when he
was heavier than he is now, but it is
the last picture he had taken. The
appearance of the picture will be a
surprise to him, as thet photo was ob
tained without his knowledge or consent.

Is American Patriotism Dead ?
The patriotism which once fired the
hearts of our forefathers, which Bpurred
thom on to noble, daring deeds, is now
a smoldoring fire. We no longer see
that real, true, inspiring, whole-souled
patriotism which characterized the
men who fou'ght aud died to make the
country what it Is to-day. It Beems
that true 'patriotism died with them,
and although a day has been Bel apart
to honor the memory of the men who
struggled bo bravely from 1801 to 1805,
bow many pass the day without a
thought of Its real purpose ? How few
pay tribute to those heroes whom every
American should respect, honor and
love ? How is our Decoration Day
spent? With drunkenness, gayety
and sports. Saloons doing a rushing
business and young boys reeling on our
streets. Ah, Bharae ! Is It any wonder
that an old veteran with tear-filled eyes
and trembling voice should say : "I
hope and pray that our President will
order that Decoration Day be observed
no more, for then the spirits of the dead
could rest more peacefully In their
graves." Fellow-countrymen, it's high
time we were doing something.
