Attacked by Savage Hog.
W. H. Brltton, tax collector of Wash
ington towDshlp, met with a most
nccullar accident yesterday morning

Mr. Britton went out to his pin pen
in tho morning to do some work and

if one of the legs and lucerated both of
hem in a fearful manner. Mr. Britton
was knocked down by the impact of the
animal's attack, and had he not been
able to beat off the hog by the free use
of a club that he managed to pick up,
there is no doubt but that he would
have been killed. The hog is a big one
and seemed to be in a most savage mood,
itiequiring some heavy, well directed
blows before it would desist in its at
tack.
Dr. Jav C. Booher, of Falls Creek,
was summoned to attend the injuries,
and last night stated that the wounds
aie of a very serious nature, but thinks
that there will be no serious results,
although Mr. Britton will be laid up

High School Friday evening, May 4th,
In the new I. O. O. F. hall. The hall
u$ beautifully and artistically decor
ited in the Senior colors black and
fold. Tho amusemonts consisted of
lancing and a variety of games. Tho
!rowd was the largest gathering of
'High School students ever together on
such an occasion, being over seventy
present. In excellence the banquet was
of the highest degree and the toasting
which folloed with Prof. Scott as
toast master was immensoly interesting.
The evening, though inclined to be
somewhat sad for the Seniors, .was ono
of the greatest enjoyment and spirit.

Freshmen.

growing tall doesn't work very well.

The first commencement of the gram
mar grade pupils wa9 held Monday
afternoon in Assembly hall. Tho hall
was decorated In their colors, purple
and white. The program was an ex
cellent one and very well given, after
which Prof. Scott made a very interest
ing and Instructive talk to the class.
Diplomas were then presented to the
members of tho class, 2(i in number, tho
largest number entering the High
School for Bome time. The pupils
certainly deserve credit and praise for
their work.

out delivering express packages yester

Ask the Senior boys if they enjoyed
the apples and cakes Monday afternoon.

The High School basket ball team,
champions of Jefferson county, ended a
very successful season with a record of
eleven victories and throe defeats.
The team proved to bo the fastest high
school team in this part of the state by
defeating all tho teams of the neighbor
ing towns. From the start tho boys
wont in to make tho team a success and
by hard and constant practice not only
realized their ambition, but established
for themselves a rocord rarely accom
plished by any High Scool in thoir first
year. A leaguo was formed by the
different High School teams in JolTer
son cqinty to decide tho championship
of the county and for a championship
banner to bo presented by tho respect
ive teams. By mutual consont all drop
pod out except Beech woods, Brook
v.llo and Reynoldsville High Schools.
Two games wero played with each
team, ono at each place. Tho series
mded with Reynoldsvillo in first place
vith 4 victories and 0 defeats. Thro'
ho kindness of Mr. J. S. Hammond,
vho contributed liberally to the bannor
und, a handsome banner was obtained
vhich will be placed on exhibition in
.ho school. Tho boys who won thoir
Vs and who were stars in thoir respect
ive positions wero Harris, L. Sykes,
forwards : Hoffman, center ; Thornton
and Frank King, guards ; Craig King
and Blair Sykes subs. Altho' tho team
loses two regulars and one substitute by
graduation yet tho out look is very
promising for a fast team next year.
