The young men had a host of friends

They were interred in the Sykesville
cemetery. Lyons was a member of the
P. O. S. of A. and that organization
turned out according to their custom,
and at the close of the services paid
their last sad rites to their deceased
brother. The flowers on each of tho
caskets were identical tho same and
were procured by the citizens of tho
town, and were the finest over seen at

On "Friday afternoon as Harry E.

EMERICKVILLE ALIVE
THERE IS "SOMETHING DOING"
ALL THE TIME
In the Village on the Pike and Our Cor
respondent Writes it up in an In
teresting Way.
Emeriekville Is still alive and boom
ing on account of so much going on.
Lots of "dolus" and not m ich money
coming in. The baud meets vory Mon
day evening In I. O. S. of A. hall for
practice. This week tho Grungers meet
Tuesday evening to ro-organ ze ; Wed
nesday evening tho ladles of tho M. E.
church hold a "shadow soeh I" for bene
fit of the janitor, Thursdaj night tho
Red Men meet, Friday tilghi all rest if
we are not runniug around some where
else, and on Saturday night tho P. O.
S. of A. meet. So there is no use of
people complaining of not having any
placo for entertainment.
Uov. J. C. MeEntire, of Reynolds
ville, came very near having a runaway
and bMng injured while here Sunday.
He was turning his horse and sleigh In
the deep snow at the M. E. church and
was upset. He held on to the lines and
the horse started in a circle and would
have tramped on Rev. MeEntire, who
was lying in the snow bundled up so as
to bo helpless, but Mrs. Levi Sehugers
caught the horse in time to prevent in
jury to Rev. MeEntire.
There was an excollentontortainment
in tho P. O. S. of A. hall Washington's
Birthday, February 22nd. There was a
largo attendance. Four of our public
schools took part. These entertain
menis have been given every year since
the P. O. S. of A. erected their own
hall. Tho ontertainmont was better
this year than over before. Wo have a
good corps of teachers In and around
Emeriekville.
Our miners are still out on a strike.
Thoy hare things down pretty ifine
about working. Thoy daro not work
more than one day a week now. Before
they used to do all they could got to do.
Wol I, it just suits somo of thorn. As
farmers they can work all they please
and nobody has anything to say.
Rev. W. H. Garnott preached in the
M. E. church in Reynoldsville Sunday.
Rev. J. C. MeEntiro filled his pulpit in
the M. E. church Ht this placo. We
are always glad to hear Rev. MeEntire
and we like to bear our own preacher
too. We think Rev. Garnett is a fine
man.
Hiram Deemor mado a trip last week

Ev
'Yes," said Repi'ee,nta ivc W. O.
Smith, of Pnrixsutawoey, :is ho arose
from a tab'o in tho House restaurant.
The question put by. Re iresentntivo
rawney. f Minnesota, si'i.ing at an
adjoining table, surprised h m.
"Ever play-in 'Jim' Tawn vy's band.?"
"Yes, si reo," responded I'io Punxsu
tawney statesman, and forthwith there
was a reunion.
Although Mr. Smith lias been in
congress almost two years, he hud not
before recognized his old band leader,
and neither had the former band leader
recognized his former pupil.
Tho Reynoldsvillo bund, under "Jim"
Tawney's leadership, was quite as won
derful an institution as such country
bands usually are. Tawney was some
thing of an oxpert on tho cornot ac
cording to the Reynoldsville standard
of musical criticism. Ho could really
play three or four pieces fairly well.
Smith tooted on a baritone horn, but
his repertoire was much more restricted.
In fact Smith felt very proud of being
able to keep up with tho rest of the
band when it rendered its favorite,
known as "No. 13 "
Tawney, in those days, worked in the
Reynoldsville machine shop. Smith
was a typo Washington 1'ml.
